Mission and objectives

IOM mission is to ensure humane and orderly migration benefits migrants and society. The organization works with its partners in the international community to assist in meeting the operational challenges of migration, advance understanding of migration issues, encourage social and economic development through migration, and uphold the human dignity and well-being of migrants. By delivering holistic and systemic support, IOM integrates this methodology into its operations at global, regional, and national levels, as outlined by its global Strategic Plan. Effective management of human mobility and the establishment of regular migration pathways can significantly contribute to sustainable development, prosperity, and progress, a reality acknowledged in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (2030 Agenda). This vision is also reflected in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM), the United Nations Secretary General’s Action Agenda on Internal Displacement, and various other thematic frameworks and instruments.

Context

Under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission (CoM) and direct supervision of the Head of the Programme Support Unit (PSU), and in coordination with relevant programme leads, including a national-Japanese staff currently leading the unit on Migration, Environment, and Climate Change (MECC), the successful candidate will contribute to strengthening the research capacities of the country office (CO) and strengthening knowledge and information management. Research and analysis carried out in this role will support the preparation of project proposals, some project development activities, and donor reporting, and will also be leveraged to identify new areas of engagement where IOM Rwanda could be involved or to engage with non-traditional donors. In parallel, this role will also focus on knowledge and information management and support the creation of relevant tools, including databases, dashboards or datasets, to provide quantitative evidence on the results and impact achieved by IOM Rwanda’s operation. As such, the successful candidate will be expected to work across units, providing general support as well as support needed on an ad-hoc basis
