Organizational Setting

The Department of Nuclear Sciences and Applications implements the IAEA's Major Programme 2, "Nuclear Techniques for Development and Environmental Protection". This Major Programme comprises individual programmes on food and agriculture, human health, water resources, environment and radiation technologies. These programmes are supported by laboratories in Seibersdorf, Monaco and Vienna. The Major Programme's objective is to enhance the capacity of Member States to meet basic human needs and to assess and manage the marine and terrestrial environments through the use of nuclear and isotopic techniques in sustainable development programmes.

The Division of Physical and Chemical Sciences is responsible for assisting and advising Member States in research and development for the nuclear sciences, especially the physical and chemical sciences. Specifically, the Division provides support to Member States in the following fields\: production of radioisotopes and radiolabelled products for applications in health care and industry; radiation source applications; research reactor utilization; applications of accelerators and nuclear instrumentation; nuclear and atomic data for applications; controlled nuclear fusion and isotope hydrology and geochemistry.

Main Purpose

To provide technical expertise in the implementation of NAPC's internal and external communication strategies through the following deliverables\: drafting and editing, preparation of official outreach documents, text and picture research, NAPC event organization and exhibition coordination, web story drafting, web videography, stakeholder analysis, provision of communication-related support to the Divisional Director.

Functions / Key Results Expected

  • Develop outreach and advocacy products relating to NAPC activities, including presentations, communications kits, brochures, articles, project proposal portfolios, information media kits, website content, internal/external case statements.
  • Research, draft and edit texts for a range of outreach materials, including brochures, flyers, exhibition material, briefing notes, background press material, etc.
  • Draft stories and photo essays for IAEA website covering NAPC activities, conduct and edit web video interviews and support the development of the NAPC website.
  • Provide technical editing and proofreading of official documentation and presentations for consistency.
  • Provide advice on outreach activities, carry out picture research, draft outreach materials and prepare outreach videos for NAPC outreach events.
  • Assist in the organization of NAPC outreach events such as workshops, exhibitions and press conferences.
  • Assist with Divisional Director's presentations and speeches.
  • Develop and maintain contacts and/or relationships with industry, NGO's potential donors, institutes, and other appropriate entities in the public and private sector, including international organizations.
  • Pursue appropriate follow up activities and meetings with Member States and others.
  • Undertake other tasks as requested by the Divisional Director.

Qualifications and Experience

  • University degree (bachelor) in Communication or a related field.
  • Minimum of five years of working experience in communication and outreach, with some exposure to the international field, preferably in the scientific community.
  • Working experience in the nuclear scientific community an asset.
  • Excellent knowledge of oral and written command of English. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish) is an asset.

Remuneration

The remuneration for this consultancy is a daily fee of up to a maximum of € 350, based on qualifications and experience. In case duty travel is required within the assignment, a daily subsistence allowance (DSA) and travel costs are provided. Health coverage and pension fund are the responsibility of the incumbent.
