Head of Programs*
in Bamako
The position is to be filled as soon as possible, with an initial contract duration of one year. There are very good prospects for an extension. Employment location will be Bamako, Mali.
Welthungerhilfe Mali works with vulnerable communities affected by hunger affected in rural, urban and peri-urban areas, with the aim of sustainably accelerating the transition to inclusive and sustainable food systems in our regions of intervention. Our multi-sector interventions focus on humanitarian aid, food and nutrition security, WASH, livelihoods and economic development, with a holistic approach. WHH currently operates in Kayes, Kita, Segou, Mopti, Bandiagara, Timbuktu and Gao.
As Head of Programs you will be a member of the Senior Management Team and will provide leadership and foster a culture of excellence in WHH Mali programmes in accordance with organizational policies and the Country Strategic Plan. You will participate in decision-making on strategic issues including geographical priorities, program quality, program development, partnership strategy and other organizational priorities. You will work closely with the team to ensure effective implementation of WHH’s policies and strategies and deliver high quality programs.
You will work in close collaboration with the Country Director and the Heads of support units and the Area Managers. You will have the hierarchical and technical leadership of the program team and the techicnical leadership of the Head of Projects.
Your responsibilities

Identify, examine and assess new project ideas on the basis of the country program and intervention strategy

Lead the development of high quality proposal in collaboration with the program team

Ensure appropriate, high-quality and timely reporting

Liaise consistently with the Head of Operations and the Head of Finance to ensure systems and finance are working for program delivery

Identify potential new national and international partners, ensuring active collaboration and/or capacity building

Support projects implementation according to Welthungerhilfe quality standards, including the setup of an effective and participatory MEAL system

Prepare projects budgets collaboratively with program and finance staff and track projects expenditure

Represent Welthungerhilfe vis-à-vis other national and international, governmental and non-governmental bodies as well as donors and participate in coordination committees
Your profile
-
A university degree in humanitarian/development studies or an equivalent degree related to the position
-
More than 5 years of professional experience in leadership roles, both in development and humanitarian context

Ability to strengthen team dynamics

Excellent communication and intercultural skills as well as coordination and organisational skills, including ability to work under pressure

Ability to contribute to developing the capacities of the team

A high level of mental and physical resilience and readiness to travel to areas with volatile local conditions

You recognize the growing value of data within an organization and inspire teams to make decisions grounded in analysis and evidence

Readiness to receive necessary vaccinations for traveling to Welthungerhilfe's programme countries

Excellent spoken and written English and French; German would be an asset
