About this position
In the context of the new IDB’s institutional strategy and in alignment with the objectives of IDB Impact+, as well as the expanded responsibilities and functions of the Vice Presidency for Countries and Regional Integration and its regional departments, the IDB Regional Country Department Southern Cone (CSC/CSC) is seeking a proactive and experienced Regional Communications Senior Specialist.
This role aims to enhance the Department´s visibility, deepen stakeholder engagement, and lead strategic communications efforts. The ideal candidate will be adept at translating organizational priorities into impactful communication strategies that enhance the organization's influence and reputation at the country and regional levels.
In close collaboration with the Vice Presidency for Countries and Regional Integration (VPC/VPC), the Communications Division (EXC/DCC), other regional managers, and country teams, this role will require a high level of creativity, strategic vision, and adaptability to drive effective messaging across diverse audiences in a complex, multi-stakeholder environment.
What you’ll do
• Serve as a strategic advisor to the IDB senior management, including the Presidency, the Regional Country Management, the Vice Presidencies and the Communications Division to enhance the Bank’s influence and stakeholder engagement. Ensure messaging consistency across internal and external communications to reinforce the organization’s mission, goals, and thought leadership.
• Drive the development and management of strategic media relationships across the countries included in the Department, providing high-level editorial guidance and coordination on media interactions, press interviews, and media briefings. Establish and cultivate strong connections with regional influencers and opinion leaders to amplify organizational messaging, including traditional print media as well as digital platforms.
• Lead the development and execution of a comprehensive regional communication strategy for CSC, ensuring alignment of institutional priorities and cross-function collaboration with VPC/VPC and the Communications Division while supporting and providing quality assurance for the development of country-level annual communication plans. This strategy should include a proposal for the personnel strategy needed to effectively support the communication objectives, including identifying skill gaps, recommending staffing needs, and fostering a collaborative environment across regional communication teams.
• Provide strategic leadership for the Country Department’s communications team, providing strategic guidance to ensure alignment with institutional priorities, positioning the Bank as a key player at the country level, and driving communication activities though different channels that spotlight IDB’s initiatives, operations and knowledge agenda. Facilitate peer learning, resource-sharing, and the integration of regional and multi-country campaigns to strengthen coherence and collaboration across countries.
• Proactively shape and execute communication strategies to safeguard the institution’s reputation during crises and high-stakes situations, ensuring timely alerts and coordination with headquarters. Establish and maintain stakeholder trust through accurate, transparent, and impactful messaging.
• Lead the creation and strategic oversight of high-quality content for senior management, including press releases, speeches, video scripts, social media posts, blogs, and talking points for internal and external audiences. Manage the development of promotional and multimedia content, ensuring narratives effectively illustrate the positive impact of the organization’s projects in the region while leveraging knowledge products.
