Mission and objectives

Pakistan was the sixth country in the world to sign and ratify the Convention on the Rights of the Child, less than one year after it was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 1989. However, children and adolescents living in Pakistan still face acute challenges.

UNICEF supports the Government of Pakistan to accelerate progress for children, work to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and help children realize their rights under the Convention on the Rights of Children. This will be made through, among others things, strong partnerships with provincial authorities, teachers and health professionals, frontline workers and social mobilisers, communities and families, and of course the children and adolescents themselves.

In particular, UNICEF will work so that:

Every child survives and thrives -- being in good health, immunised, protected from polio and accessing nutritious food.
Every child learns.
Every child is protected from violence and exploitation, and registered at birth.
Every child lives in a safe and clean environment, with access to safe drinking water and adequate sanitation.

Context

The Pakistan Country office (PCO) has prioritized the establishment of a Partnerships and Resource Mobilization section as part of its new Country Programme (2023-2027). The purpose of the section is to generate engagement and funding to support UNICEF Pakistan’s regular programming and humanitarian appeals. Funding from both public and private sector donors, including UNICEF National Committees are key pillars of this strategy. Moreover, since January 2020 the PCO has also been engaging the private sector in Pakistan on a non-financial basis (Business for results – B4R) in order to mainstream the potential and relevance of business into decisions on how to achieve results for children.
The launch of the UNICEF Pakistan Advisory Council (UPAC) in 2024 marked a significant milestone in private sector engagement. Comprising 17 prominent individuals from business, academia, civil society, and media, UPAC serves as a strategic platform to champion child rights and foster collaboration on key development initiatives.
Under the general guidance and supervision of the Chief of Partnerships and Resource Mobilization (P-5), the position will be responsible for supporting the overall coordination, planning, development and realization of the work of the UNICEF Pakistan Advisory Council (UPAC)’s Secretariat.
