Over the last 50 years, UNDP in Bhutan has been supporting the Royal Government of Bhutan (RGoB) to attain its national priorities. In 2024, UNDP started implementation of the Country Programme Document 2024-2028, aligning to Bhutan’s 13th Five Year Plan (13th FYP). 

UNDP Bhutan Country Office is comprised of the programme and the operations unit.  The operations team is led by the Operations Manager and the team supports the work of the programme colleagues. One of the responsibilities of the team is to ensure that financial transactions are conducted efficiently for smooth functioning of the programme unit. To support the Finance Associate, UNDP is seeking an intern (preferably with background in Finance/commerce or related field) to be attached to the Operations Unit. 

Duties and Responsibilities

Support the Drafting of Delivery Tracking Guidelines
  • Conduct a desk review of existing internal and regional guidance on delivery tracking and monitoring.
  • Gather inputs from operations and programme staff on key delivery challenges and enablers.
  • Assist in developing a draft structure for the delivery tracking guidelines (e.g., templates, SOPs, flowcharts).
  • Compile case examples or lessons learned from previous delivery performance reports or reviews.
  • Support the layout/design of the final document using MS Word/PowerPoint or Canva.

Support Project Finance Reviews (using Excel)

  • Assist in reviewing project balances for accuracy and relevance.
  • Help prepare Excel trackers to analyze project delivery, commitments, and available balances.
  • Support the calculation and verification of Direct Project Costs (DPC) using project budget and expenditure data.
  • Cross-check data inputs and assist in preparing summary tables for internal review meetings. 

Additional Support

  • Take notes during meetings related to operations improvement or delivery performance.
  • Organize shared folders and maintain a tracking matrix of documents and inputs received.
  • Perform other related tasks as needed by the supervisor.

Expected Outputs

  • Draft delivery tracking guidelines document.
  • Synthesis report or slide deck on best practices in finance.
  • Well-organized repository of background materials and references.

Other relevant tasks assigned by the supervisor/ UNDP county office. 

Competencies

  • Ability to perform a variety of repetitive and routine tasks and duties related to finance screening, collecting and preparation of documentation, data input, transactions tracking, filing, provision of information.

  • Knowledge and proficient user of Video Conferencing tools such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams
Required Skills and Experience

Education:

Candidates must at the time of application meet ONE of the following requirements: 

  1. Be enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme (such as a master’s programme, or higher);
  2. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (such as bachelor’s degree or equivalent);
  3. Have recently graduated with a university degree (as defined in (1) and (2) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation;
  4. Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program and undertake the internship as part of this program.

Applicants with a degree in Finance/Commerce or related field may be given preference.
