What we do

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) works worldwide to provide protection and humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflict and armed violence. We take action in response to emergencies and, at the same time, promote respect for international humanitarian law. We are an independent and neutral organization, and our mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. We work closely with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and with their International Federation in order to ensure a concerted, rational and rapid humanitarian response to the needs of the victims of armed conflict or any other situation of internal violence. We direct and coordinate the international activities conducted in these situations.

Purpose

The Psychologist is responsible for supporting with the continued development, implementation, monitoring and reporting of the mental health and psychosocial support activities for all programmes, alongside the MHPSS Programme Manager. Under the supervision of the Mental Health Programme manager, s/he guarantees technical quality, alignment with the Delegation (and Subdelegations) priorities and strategy, as well as integrating ethical and do no harm considerations throughout the delivery of activities in the field.

Accountabilities & Functional responsibilities

  • In collaboration with the MHPSS programme manager, proposes evidence-based interventions in line with national and international standards, throughout the development of manuals, programme orientations, and implementation of activities, as well as strategic orientations throughout context changes.
  • Assists in conducting MHPSS and multidisciplinary needs assessments as well as identifying and referring multidisciplinary needs.
  • Supervises activities and provides technical support to the psychologists.
  • Monitors the timely entering of data of the MHPSS activities: Medical Activity Database (MAD), PEARL, Project and Activity Management tool (PAM), as well as contributing to the narrative of quarterly and annual reports.
  • Supervises that concept notes, proposals, MOUs, minutes of meetings and activities implemented by volunteers, the psychologists and/or him/herself are accurately presented, documented and shared in a timely manner.
  • In coordination with the Health PM, supports in the planning of the necessary resources and budget for the implementation of activities.
  • Supports MHPSS PM in meetings with national level interlocutors and translates for the HPM in meetings when pertinent.
  • Ensures the MHPSS stakeholder mapping and referral pathway is up to date.
  • People Management responsibilities (Performance Management & Development (PMD) activities)

Certifications / Education required

  • BA in Psychology and MA in Clinical Psychology required.
  • License to practice in the country required.

Professional Experience required

  • 3 to 5 years overall professional experience as Psychologist with minimum 2 years’ experience in a humanitarian setting within an MHPSS programmes.
  • 1 year psychotherapeutic experience.
  • Experience conducting clinical interventions required (not limited only to PSS).
  • Experience working in managing teams.
  • Experience in working with multidisciplinary departments.
  • Experience working in the Red Cross/Red Crescent is an asset.

What we offer

  • Salary Package: 2’897 – 4’049 USD/Month (As per ICRC salary scale, salary setting processes will determine fair setting in coherence with the qualifications of the applicant and the requirements of the job).
  • 13th Month of salary paid in December, pro rata basis in accordance with the period worked.
  • Annual Leave: 20 calendar working days of paid leave per year, pro rata basis in accordance with the period worked.
  • Health Insurance: 90% of premium fees under class B, coverage include: Doctor visits, Medicines, Therapy services, etc.
  • International Retirement Saving Plan (IRSP): a contribution valued at 11.5% of your monthly salary, these savings are paid by the end of service as a lump sum.
  • Other benefits subject to internal rules and regulations: High Cost of Living Allowance (HCLA), Schooling allowance, eyeglasses, designated personal training budget for learning opportunities.

Additional information

  • Location: Beirut
  • Working Schedule: Monday to Friday, from 8am to 5pm.
  • Type of contract: Fixed Term, until December 31, 2025 (Renewable based on performance and need for position).
