Job Description

Project Context and Scope

 
Under the direct supervision of the Chief of Mission, and in close coordination with the Project Managers, IOM Cyprus, the incumbent will be responsible for researching, compiling, consolidating and sharing of information and contributing to a day-to-day migrant integration and inclusion work of IOM Cyprus to assist the respective Ministries and Agencies of the Republic. 

The incumbent will further support the IOM work aimed towards collection of best practices related to integration of migrants, advising on those applicable in Cyprus, developing the narratives which in turn will contribute to the national strategy on integration. 

The successful candidate will be based in IOM Nicosia, Cyprus and will have the following duties and responsibilities:

Responsibilities

Tasks to be performed under this contract
  1. Collect, consolidate and analyse information available within the framework of IOM Cyprus SIL project on integration of Unaccompanied Migrant Children (UAMC), as well as similar projects and activities in Cyprus. 
  2. Support IOM Cyprus as well as related Ministries and Agencies with identification of gaps and stumbling blocks in effective integration and protection of migrants including UAMC. Based on available good practices and experience propose those applicable to Cyprus.  
  3. Support the work of the respective inter-agency technical groups and project teams on all aspects of integration as requested. 
  4. Maintain regular contact on the integration topic on technical level with respective government agencies, beneficiaries, community representatives, local authorities, IOM Project Managers, international organizations and civil society. 
  5. Liaise as needed with respective IOM missions, Regional and Subregional Offices, partners, and stakeholders, and in close coordination with the supervisor, collect and consolidate available materials and information and provide reviews, inputs and suggestions as needed to draft documents on integration. 
  6. Support the organization of technical consultations, round tables or other events pertinent to integration, employment, education, training, etc. of migrants. 
  7. Prepare presentations based on the above work. Attend and lead on presenting at various related events as required. 
  8. Facilitate, coordinate, develop and propose drafts of the discussion documents, roadmaps, approaches, position papers, concept notes, strategy documents and other documents on the subject matter. 
  9. Perform any other duties as may be assigned.

Qualifications

Education
  • Master’s degree in political science, social science, law, migration, European studies or a related field from an accredited academic institution with five years of relevant professional experience. University degree in the above fields with seven years of relevant professional experience. 
Experience
  • Experience working with Swiss approach to integration or prior working experience in Switzerland would be a distinct advantage. 
  • Excellent knowledge of migration issues. Emphasis on EU related migration policy and law is a distinct advantage. 
  • Prior working experience in development, contribution to or review of national migration policies, laws, strategies, etc. 
  • Excellent analytical and writing skills. Ability to synthesise, summarize and formulate well the results of the discussions, presentations, etc. 
  • Prior working experience with international, humanitarian organizations, non-government or government institutions in a multi-cultural setting is an advantage. 
  • Experience working in large teams that requires a very good coordination and distribution of responsibilities.
Skills
  • Proficient in computer applications such as Word, Excel, and Internet
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Attention to detail, ability to organize paperwork in a methodological way
  • Discreet and beneficiary-orientated, patient and willingness to learn new things
  • Problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to demonstrate experience or knowledge to Swiss approach in integration 
Languages

Excellent knowledge of English. Fluency in other UN language is an advantage. 

Working knowledge of Greek would be a distinct advantage. 

IOM’s official languages are English, French and Spanish.
Proficiency of language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
