Job Purpose

The Fundraising and Donor Partnership Manager holds a management position at the GICHD, focusing on resource mobilization efforts, donor relations, and reporting processes. This position plays a crucial role in navigating the evolving funding landscape, ensuring the development of high-quality funding proposals and timely, impactful donor reporting. Reporting to the Head of External Relations, the Fundraising and Donor Partnership Manager leads a small team and collaborates closely with donor focal points, project teams, and advisors. The role also fosters strong communication and alignment with the Heads of all GICHD divisions to ensure coherent and effective fundraising and partnership strategies.

Key responsibilities

  1. Design and implement multi-year fundraising strategies that align with GICHD’s mission and objectives, based on analysis of donor priorities, funding trends, and emerging opportunities in the field of explosive ordnance risk reduction.
  2. Build and maintain strategic partnerships with donors in collaboration with internal donor stewards and focal points; serve as the primary liaison at the working level, and participate in donor meetings alongside Heads of Division as appropriate.
  3. Oversee the full grant management cycle, including opportunity tracking, proposal development, submission, contract management, and timely reporting.
  4. Provide strategic guidance to donor stewards and lead cross-divisional fundraising initiatives; coordinate and finalize the drafting of high-quality concept notes and funding proposals, incorporating input from relevant teams to ensure clarity and donor alignment.
  5. Ensure the preparation and quality assurance of donor reports, both narrative and financial, in line with donor requirements and deadlines.
  6. Strengthen internal systems and processes for tracking fundraising activities, grant deliverables, deadlines, and donor engagement.
  7. Monitor changes in donor regulations and compliance standards, identifying potential risks and ensuring alignment with GICHD’s internal policies and procedures.
  8. Work closely with the Head of External Relations, donor stewards, project managers, division heads, and the Finance team to ensure alignment between project implementation, grant obligations, and future funding needs.
  9. Collaborate with the Communications Manager on donor visibility to ensure accurate and strategic representation of donor support in external materials.
  10. Lead and manage the grants team, providing strategic direction, oversight, and support to foster collaboration, professional growth, and a positive working environment.

Qualifications and professional experience

  • Master’s degree in international relations, development, or social sciences.
  • 10 years of managing grants and leading a team. 

Knowledge, skills and competencies

  • Demonstrated expertise in developing successful funding proposals and concept notes for institutional donors. Familiarity with donor compliance requirements and reporting standards.
  • Proven track record in securing and managing large-scale grants and multi-year donor partnerships.
  • Ability to provide strategic technical guidance on fundraising approaches, donor engagement, and partnership development.
  • Strong proposal writing skills with the ability to craft compelling narratives tailored to different donor audiences.
  • Excellent command of English, both written and oral; proficiency in other languages (especially French, Spanish, or Arabic) is an asset.
  • Demonstrated leadership in managing donor relations and engagement strategies at operational and strategic levels.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and negotiation skills, with the ability to collaborate across functions and cultures in a diverse organizational setting.
  • Sound analytical skills, with the ability to interpret and communicate financial data in support of proposals and donor reporting.
  • Project management experience, with the ability to prioritize and coordinate multiple initiatives simultaneously under tight deadlines.
  • Commitment to and demonstrated experience in integrating gender equality, diversity, and inclusion into donor communications and fundraising materials.

  • May be required to travel occasionally.

Salary Information

Please note that the salary for this role starts at CHF 128'257.- yearly gross, subject to social security deductions and income tax.
