Functional Responsibilities

Under the overall supervision of the UNOPS Senior Programme Manager, the incumbent works under the operational guidance of the Chief, Infrastructure Operations Section (IOS) Infrastructure Operations Section, and Chief of Technology Infrastructure Support at the UN ICT Facility in Valencia, Spain. The ICT Associate will administratively report to designated UNOPS team lead and will be  responsible for following:

  1. Maintenance Support for UNGSC Critical Data Center (Preventive & Corrective)
  2. 24/7/365 ICT Infrastructure Support Services
  3. Rack Hosting and Infrastructure Support for Data Centre IT Installations
  4. Support for IoT and Operational Technology (OT) Systems
  5. Knowledge Management and Coordination:

1. Maintenance Support for UNGSC Critical Data Center (Preventive & Corrective)

  • Leads preventive maintenance activities based on established schedules to ensure the reliability, optimal performance, and longevity of data center infrastructure.
  • Proactively identifies potential issues through advanced monitoring, diagnostics, and analysis, and initiates corrective actions to mitigate risks.
  • Executes and oversees corrective maintenance procedures addressing hardware failures, network disruptions, and other technical incidents.
  • Maintains comprehensive documentation of maintenance operations, including repairs, replacements, and system enhancements.
  • Supervises and contributes to the installation of structured cabling, fiber optic splicing, and electrical systems within the data center.
  • Ensures adherence to industry standards and best practices for cable management, labeling, and documentation.
  • Coordinates the deployment and configuration of data center equipment and control systems.
  • Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to troubleshoot and resolve complex issues involving hardware, software, and network connectivity of industrial devices.
  • Supports the monitoring and maintenance of HVAC systems, power distribution, backup power systems (UPS, generators), and fire suppression infrastructure.
  • Oversees the implementation and maintenance of access control systems, including configuration of access devices, tailgate systems, locks, and terminals.
  • Manages the deployment and support of CCTV and audio-video systems.
  • Responds to and resolves escalated technical incidents to minimize downtime and ensure service continuity.
  • Coordinates with external service providers and contractors to support integrated technologies within the data center infrastructure.
  • Supports the organization and optimization of data center storage operations, including layout planning, inventory control, and shelving system setup.

3. Rack Hosting and Infrastructure Support for Data Centre IT Installations
  • Oversees the provisioning and strategic management of data center rack space, ensuring optimal utilization and compliance with operational standards.
  • Coordinates with internal stakeholders and external clients to allocate rack space and facilitate timely equipment deployment.
  • Conducts regular audits of rack installations to ensure adherence to safety, security, and performance benchmarks.
  • Monitors power and cooling capacity, providing recommendations for improvements to maximize uptime and efficiency.
4. Support for IoT and OT Systems:
  • Oversees the provisioning and strategic management of data center rack space, ensuring optimal utilization and compliance with operational standards.
  • Coordinates with internal stakeholders and external clients to allocate rack space and facilitate timely equipment deployment.
  • Conducts regular audits of rack installations to ensure adherence to safety, security, and performance benchmarks.
  • Monitors power and cooling capacity, providing recommendations for improvements to maximize uptime and efficiency.
5. Knowledge Management:
  • Continually explore, evaluate and recommend advanced technologies to provide higher quality service, scalability and modern architectural standards.
  • Act as a focal point for coordination of activities within the scope of the preventive and corrective maintenance in support of UNGSC Critical Data Center activities
  • Be able to lead other team member on dealing with complex problems and escalations.

This enhances UNOPS’ competitive position as a partner of choice in sustainable development and project services in the country/region served.

Education/Experience/Language requirements

Education:
  • Secondary school diploma (or high school equivalent) and six (6) years of relevant experience are required OR.
  • A first-level university degree (undergraduate, Bachelors, or equivalent) with 2 years of relevant experience OR
  • A technical diploma with 4 years of relevant experience.

Experience:
Required: 
  • Relevant experience is defined as experience in the field of Enterprise Data Centre Infrastructure.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience in monitoring and maintenance of Enterprise Data Center UPS Systems, Fire Suspension Systems, HVAC, Free Cooling Systems.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience in voice and data center network structured cabling.
Desirable: (The following experience is optional. Candidates who do not have it are welcome to apply)
  • Experience in installation, configuration and programming of PLC’s and microcontroller’s.
  • Experience in an international/ multicultural organization.
  • Understanding and experience of Internet of Things (IoT), Operational Technology (OT), Industrial control systems (ICS), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems.
Language Requirements:
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of a second UN language is desirable.
