Job Description

Established in 1951, IOM is a Related Organization of the United Nations, and as the leading UN agency in the field of migration, works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.

 

 

Responsibilities

Working under the overall direction of the National Programme Officer, the intern will assist on full-time basis with the case management of the Mission. Tasks will include:

  • Assisting the NPO with case management, developing assistance plans, processing payments, tracking progress, and executing case closures and case monitoring.
  • Providing timely and accurate information to beneficiaries.
  • Tracking and recording case information, completing forms in IOM’s systems.
  • Preparing and submitting monthly reports as required and incorporating clients’ feedback in a timely manner, including information related to grants provided, follow up visits, referrals to other service providers and awareness activities conducted etc., as provided.
  • Assisting the NPO with other programmatic activities.
  • Undertaking all other tasks as may be assigned.

Training components and learning elements:
• The intern will gain experience in a UN Organization as well as understanding the dynamics of regional and international initiatives and working groups.
• Gain experience in Protection projects.
• Acquire in-depth knowledge of how IOM works with different stakeholders to advocate for migrants’ rights.
• Practical involvement in Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration projects related to Protection.
• Opportunities to discuss career planning and strategies for humanitarian work within IOM

Qualifications

  • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme 
    (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or 
  • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or 
    equivalent, or higher); or
  • Have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must 
    commence the internship within one year of graduation
  • Preferred areas of study: Bachelor's degree in Social Science, International Relations and International Law or any other related studies.
  • Knowledge of standard software applications (Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Excellent writing, communication and analytical skills
  • Solid understanding and interest in migration, development and/or humanitarian
    issues
  • Proven ability to produce quality work accurately and consistently according to set
    deadlines

Languages:
Fluency in English, Kazakh and Russian is required (oral and written)
