Job Description

Under the overall supervision of MHPSS Programme Manager and the direct supervision of the MHPSS Family and Community Support Officer, the Tailor will be responsible for assisting the programme activities by performing the following functions and responsibilities under Protection Unit:

Responsibilities

1. Training and Mentorship

  • Lead basic tailoring skills sessions for students under the guidance of community tailors.
  • Provide hands-on training and mentorship to community tailors, ensuring they are well-prepared to train students.
  • Develop and teach advanced tailoring techniques to enhance the skillset of community tailors.

2. Program Coordination and Logistics

  • Organize and oversee the day-to-day logistics of the Tailoring Program, ensuring all materials, tools, and resources are available and maintained.
  • Plan and coordinate the schedule for training sessions, tailoring workshops, and student skill assessments.
  • Ensure the program meets its objectives, timelines, and participant outcomes.

3. Capacity Building

  • Facilitate regular workshops and training to upskill community tailors in new fashion trends, techniques, and entrepreneurship.
  • Encourage a supportive learning environment for community tailors to share experiences, ideas, and challenges.

4. Organizing Community Fashion Show

  • Lead the planning and organization of a community fashion show, showcasing the work of students and community tailors.
  • Collaborate with community stakeholders and participants to manage logistics, venue, and invitations for the event.
  • Work with participants to prepare garments, coordinate runway presentations, and manage all elements related to the show’s success.

5. Monitoring and Reporting

  • Regularly track the progress of the training program and provide updates to the Program Manager.
  • Collect and report on program data, including student participation, skill improvement, and program feedback.
  • Contribute to program evaluations, suggesting improvements or adjustments based on feedback and performance.

6. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

  • University degree in Tailoring or related field from an accredited academic university; 
  • or institute with a minimum of three years’ relevant working experience. 

Accredited Universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.

Experience

  • Proven experience in tailoring and garment-making, with expertise in both basic and advanced techniques.
  • Experience in teaching or mentoring, especially in a community setting.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and collaborate with different stakeholders.
  • Creativity and passion for fashion design and community development.
  • Prior experience in leading fashion shows or similar events is an asset.
Skills
  • Strong computer skills - Word, Excel and Internet.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with experience in event coordination.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Languages

For this position, fluency in English is required (oral and written).

Desirable

Knowledge of Dari and Pashto (oral and written) is an added advantage.

IOM’s official languages are English, French and Spanish.
Proficiency of language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
