Mission and objectives
IFC PER organization mission TBD
Context
This role supports projects financed by SECO under the framework of the Multi-Country Investment Climate Program (MCICP) II, specifically in decarbonizing the cement industry and promoting sustainable agriculture and water management. These initiatives are crucial for improving climate resilience and supporting public-private partnerships to achieve climate and economic development goals. The UN Youth volunteer will contribute to data collection, analysis, and stakeholder coordination, ensuring projects are aligned with the IFC’s sustainability objectives.
The Decarbonization of Cement project focuses on decarbonizing the cement industry, a significant contributor to greenhouse gas emissions. In Peru, the project supports cement manufacturers in adopting innovative solutions to reduce emissions, including increasing the use of alternative fuels and producing blended green cement. The initiative comprises both firm-level engagements and sector-wide reforms. The UN Youth volunteer will be assigned to support the sector-level component, where the project aims to enhance regulatory frameworks for co-processing and blended cement, update technical standards, and raise awareness among stakeholders in both the public and private sectors. Key government entities such as Ministry of Energy and Mines (INEM) and the National Institute of Quality (INACAL) will play an essential role in advancing these reforms. By improving sector-level conditions, the project seeks to facilitate decarbonization, encourage sustainable investments, and support long-term climate goals.
The Mobilizing Investments for Sustainable Horticulture in Peru project integrates regulatory reform with investment promotion, addressing Peru's needs on two critical fronts. The first component focuses on reducing regulatory barriers in sustainable agriculture and offering tailored advisory services to anchor companies in agricultural exports, with an emphasis on irrigated agriculture. This sector has high investment potential and will serve as a test case for PROMPERU’s targeted investment approach. The second component aims to strengthen PROMPERU’s capacity as an investment promotion agency (IPA), enabling it to conduct focused outreach and promotion efforts for sustainable agricultural exports.
This assignment offers the volunteer a valuable opportunity to gain hands-on experience in project implementation, regulatory reform, and stakeholder engagement in the context of climate change mitigation strategies in developing economies.
