Mission and objectives

UNDP is the United Nations largest agency with a mandate to eradicate poverty, through sustainable and inclusive human development. UNDP has been in Nigeria since the country became independent in 1960 providing capacity building and policy development support to the Federal Government of Nigeria in areas of Governance & Peace Building, Inclusive growth, and Sustainable Development.
UNDP continues to support the government in the implementation of development interventions aimed at meeting medium to long term goals enshrined in National and Subnational development plans as well as the Sustainable Development Goals. The goal of UNDP is to improve the lives of the people of Nigeria, especially the poorest and most vulnerable, and to ensure a future that offers equality, dignity, and opportunity for all. UNDP works in partnership with the federal Government of Nigeria, development partners, UN agencies, civil society and local communities to help identify local solutions to meet global and national development challenges through a range of interventions that combine UNDP’s expertise and comparative advantage in the areas of Governance & Peace Building, Inclusive growth and Sustainable Development.

Context

UNDP Nigeria's Governance, Peace, and Security Portfolio works to strengthen accountable, efficient and effective governance to improve delivery of public services to people in Nigeria at the federal, state, and local levels, with an emphasis on parliamentary democracy and local government support, people-centred justice, security and rule of law, stabilization, and conflict prevention; strengthen human rights including human rights for business, and gender quality and inclusion with an emphasis on women, youth, and the most marginalized groups. The portfolio has a strong presence across Nigeria, including in the Federal Capital, North- East, and Northwest, North-Central, South-West, South-East and South-South and in close partnership with a range of government stake- holders, civil society organizations, academia, and international development partners.

Task description

Under the direct supervision of the Team Leader, Governance, Peace and Security Portfolio , the UN Youth Volunteer will work closely with the Portfolio project leads to help implement programmes and related initiatives under the Governance, Peace and Security Portfolio, with a specific emphasis on knowledge management, report writing and documentation, monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL), communication and outreach and administrative support The UN Youth Volunteer will also work collaboratively with the entire Governance, Peace, and Security Portfolio team as well as the UNDP Nigeria Country Office teams as required.

Project implementation and coordination
Assist in:
o preparation of working papers, reports, briefing notes, presentation, meeting minutes, and related documents.
o preparation of field missions and programme events including supporting relevant administrative and logistical tasks.
o drafting invitations, event agendas, and communication and outreach material.
o partner and stakeholder coordination including ensuring timely information sharing and supporting trouble shooting as required.

Partnership development and resource mobilization support
Assist in:
o drafting concept notes and proposals
o drafting talking points, briefing notes, presentations, and related documentation for donor/ partnership meetings.
o donor/ partnership coordination.

Knowledge management, Monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL):
Within the portfolio, assist in:
o data collection, maintaining updated data/information records, tracking out- comes/results against results frameworks, including supporting course correction.
o drafting donor reports, including coordinating within and across portfolios and relevant units such as the Programme Management Support unit (PMSU) to seek feedback and input as required.
o maintaining and tracking a repository of donor reporting timelines, monitoring visits, mid-term/year-end evaluations, and related activities to ensure overall oversight and quality control of the portfolio deliverables.
o preparation of documentation, logistical support, and coordination on all MEL initiatives
o generating and implementing learning initiatives including documenting success stories, best practices, and lessons learned, as well as seeking out new information and approaches to improve knowledge management

Promote UNDP Portfolio approach:
o Support the Governance, Peace, and Security Portfolio Team in promoting and strengthening UNDP Nigeria Country Office’s portfolio approach particularly initia-tives that improve cross- collaboration and coordination.
