Organizational Setting

The Animal Production and Health team at FAO works to improve animal health in Europe and Central Asia. We support countries by helping them strengthen their veterinary systems. Our work often follows the "One Health" approach, which connects animal, human, and environmental health. We also help countries respond to animal disease threats, ensure safe trade of animals and animal products, improve livestock production, and promote food safety.
To do this, FAO regularly hires international experts and consultants through short-term contracts, i.e. international consultants and subscribers to personal service agreements (PSA). These experts bring valuable knowledge and skills to FAO projects in a wide range of technical areas. To find the best candidates, FAO uses a competitive transparent and rigorous selection process. This process helps us build a pool of qualified professionals who can be quickly hired when needed.

Each Consultant or PSA will be hired for a specific assignment. The exact tasks will be described in the Terms of Reference. These short-term assignments can last up to 11 months and may be full-time or part-time. Extensions are possible based on performance and FAO's needs. In general, consultants are expected to deliver results.

Reporting Lines

The incumbent will work under the overall supervision of the FAO REU Assistant Director General, and the direct technical guidance of the FAO REU Animal Production and Health Officer.

Technical Focus

As part of a team, the Consultant or PSA will help improve animal health and strengthen veterinary systems in the region.
