Job Overview: 

The Youth Services Assistant Summer Counselor Supports the IRC’s Education and Youth Services Team by assisting in the coordination and delivery of youth-focused educational and enrichment activities. This includes helping to implement summer and school-year programs, supporting communication with families, and collaborating with partner organizations. The role Involves following established procedures, providing logistical and administrative support and ensuring culturally appropriate engagement with refugee and immigrant youth and their families. 

 

Major Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

  • Assist in the coordination and delivery of youth-focused activities, including summer and after-school workshops, tutoring sessions, and enrichment outings.
  • Support the facilitation of groups and individual sessions youth explore educational and vocational goals.
  • Share prepared information with youth about career pathways and educational opportunities, under the guidance of program staff.
  • Help maintain communication with schools, community colleges, and partner organizations to support youth participation in programs.
  • Provide logistical support for youth accessing financial aid, job shadowing, internships, and other opportunities.
  • Maintain accurate records of services provided and client progress in case management systems.
  • Participate in team meetings, training, and other staff development activities, as needed.
  • Assist with school enrollment and educational case management tasks under supervision.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the goals of the Education and Youth Services Team. 

 

Job Requirements:

Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent work experience.
  • Certification in CPR / First Aid for children or ability to attain certification following hire.

Work Experience:

  • Experience supporting youth or education program preferred.
  • Experience working with immigrants or refugees is a plus.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Ability to take initiative within assigned tasks and follow through with minimal supervision.
  • Comfortable accompanying program staff on home visits.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Effective communication skills in a multicultural environment.
  • Fluency in English, bilingual ability in a language spoken by the local refugee population is desirable.
  • Cultural sensitivity and the ability to build positive working relationships.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Working Environment: 

  • A combination of office and field-based work in the local service area.
  • May require regular evening and weekend hours.

 

Compensation: Posted pay ranges apply to US-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget.  Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirements.
