The IRC has been operating in Thailand since 1975 and currently provides assistance to displaced persons in Tak, Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, and Mae Hong Son provinces
Following the coup in Myanmar in February 2021, escalating conflict has increased displacement within the country. Additionally, insurgent activity along the border with Thailand has led to large-scale internal displacement, as well as a growing number of refugees seeking protection in Thailand. To address this crisis, IRC Thailand proposed an action aims to deliver emergency protection services by implementing necessary internal mechanisms and coordinating at both provincial and national levels to address the emerging needs of those affected populations.
Job Overview/Summary:
The IRC Thailand Emergency Protection Response is designed to adapt to the evolving context and changing needs of the affected population. One of the key outcomes of this response is ensuring that the affected population receives safe case management. In partnership with local organizations in Tak the IRC contextualizes case management tools and referral mechanisms to ensure that affected populations receive safe and timely case management support.
The Casework Officer will be based in IRC’s office in Mae Sot District, Tak Province. Under supervision of Senior Emergency Protection Manager and technically supported by the WPE Senior Program Manager, the Casework Officer will serve as a key person to implement case management process under the Emergency Protection. This position will also work closely with the Senior Emergency Women’s Protection and Empowerment Officer.
Major Responsibilities:
- Conduct center-based interviews to identify cases for Multipurpose Cash Assistance(MPCA).
- Work with the Senior Emergency Women’s Protection and Empowerment Officer to ensure that the identified cases meet the criteria for assistance. Ensure timely response and follow up.
- Ensure full compliance with IRC's standard operating procedures and data protection policies, including updating documentation for each individual case and translating all information into English
- Manage case files and store data complying with IRC’s data protection protocol
- Provide information to individuals and families about their rights and entitlements, including services availability
- Maintain a supportive therapeutic relationship with the client while providing MHPSS services and referrals as needed

Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, or a related field. Equivalent practical experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience of implementing protection programs, preferable social work or case management, in humanitarian or development settings, experience in case management especially with IRC and previous humanitarian work experience preferred.
- Able to communicate effectively in spoken and written Burmese and English, and Thai is a plus.
- Demonstrated analytical, systematic thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Solution oriented, committed and good communication skills to work smoothly with colleagues from various cultures and backgrounds.
- Highly organized, flexible, and adaptable to changing priorities and able to work well under deadlines with minimum supervision.
- Computer proficient, with experience using Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point including online communication platforms such as Zoom or Microsoft team.
Working Environment:
These positions are based at the IRC office in Mae Sot, Tak Province, with the possibility of travel as required.
