Job Description

Under the overall guidance of the Deputy Chief of Mission and the direct supervision of the National Program Officer (NPO), the Senior Project Associate/Coordinator will coordinate the implementation of diverse
projects activities under the Social Cohesion Unit within the Social Cohesion and Resilience Pillar and identify new community engagement and social cohesion opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate implementation of the project related to improving social cohesion in communities, including supervision of the different project’s staff
  • Within the Social Cohesion Unit in Social Cohesion and Resilience Pillar, support the management of the projects calls for proposals, grants and community initiatives in accordance with IOM guidance/rules, regulations and procedures
  • Coordinate smooth implementation of different projects activities and achievement of the overall social cohesion unit portfolio under the Social Cohesion and Resilience Pillar
     
  • In close cooperation with the NPO, review the narrative, technical and budgetary components of all grant applications and reports and verify they capture all aspects required to fulfil the goals and objectives of the diverse projects.
  • Participate in the selection, training and mentoring of facilitators/trainers for the project’s capacity building components
  • In coordination with the NPO, establish linkages and build partnerships with counterpart in relation to the implementation and coordination of all projects activities
  • Support coordination of activities related to incorporation of different approaches into project activities
  • Regularly monitor and analyses the project environment and progress, using applicable M&E and risk management tools where relevant, and suggest timely readjustments of strategies and corrective actions as necessary
  • Cooperate closely with the IOM’s Communication Unit for implementation of all the project’s media-related activities
  • In coordination with the NPO ensure effective monitoring of project performance, and the preparation of high quality and results-oriented progress reports
  • Prepare presentations and regular reports on the project activities
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education
  • University degree in political or social sciences, human rights or other related fields is favored, with five years of relevant work experience ; or high-school diploma with seven years of relevant working experience
Accredited Universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.
 
Experience
  • Proven experience and knowledge in project cycle management coordination and staff supervision
  • Understanding of issues local communities in BiH are facing related to the social cohesion with specific focus on young women and men, as well as migrant population
  • Proven experience in cooperation with governments at all levels, and public institutions at the local level
  • Experience related to citizens empowerment, inclusion, and participation, and/or community development
  • Proven experience on preparation of written reports in an accurate and concise manner
  • Knowledge of the social, political, and economic situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with specific focus on peacebuilding and trust building
  • Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of the gender perspectives in different areas of work within IOM.
Skills
  • Excellent organizational, time management and facilitation skills
  • Having strong knowledge and skills on project cycle management
  • Strong communication, presentation, coordination and supervisory skills
  • Sensitivity to identification of any possible issues, cause of delay or threat to accomplishment of project targets
  • Proficiency in computer applications, such as MS Office, Internet Explorer, Oracle
  • Valid driving license
  • Willingness and ability to conduct travel whenever needed
Languages
  • For this position, fluency in English is required (oral and written) and in one of the three official languages spoken in BiH.
IOM’s official languages are English, French and Spanish.
Proficiency of language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
