Job Description
Assisted voluntary return and reintegration (AVRR) programmes provide administrative, logistical and financial support to migrants who decide to return home but lack the means to do so. As a receiving mission, IOM Brazil provides assistance to returnees, such as counselling, referral to local services, delivering in-kind reintegration, monitoring the assistance delivered, among others. Alternatively, other available funds to assist the return of migrants in vulnerable situation that are frequently accessed by IOM Brazil are the Humanitarian Assistance for Stranded Migrants (HASM) or the Global Assistance Fund (IOM). Under supervision of the Project Coordinator, this position is intended to perform activities related to Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration (AVRR), Humanitarian Assistance for Stranded Migrants (HASM), Global Assistance Fund (IOM) and other activities related to the delivery of psychological counseling, assistance and protection to vulnerable migrants, including victims of trafficking.
Responsibilities
- Liaise with different IOM offices operating AVR/R programs;
- Provide inputs for needs assessments and programming prior to returns;
- Coordinate with counterparts for implementation of activities towards sustainable reintegration;
- Conduct virtual counselling sessions for migrant beneficiaries, with a focus on psychosocial support and referral to available services;
- Design a comprehensive and context-sensitive methodology for virtual counselling services, aligned with best practices within the project framework, with adaptability for other operational contexts;
- Create a “Training for Trainers” (ToT) module based on the developed methodology, with training materials in English and Portuguese;
- Prepare a clear and concise one-pager document in both English and Portuguese outlining the virtual counselling methodology, objectives, implementation strategy, and key considerations;
- Facilitate training sessions for IOM staff and relevant civil society partners to strengthen their capacity to implement virtual counselling in their respective roles;
- Document key findings, lessons learned, and recommendations for future implementation of virtual counselling approaches across different contexts;
- Perform other duties as may be required to support the successful implementation and sustainability of the virtual counselling service.
Qualifications
Education
• High School diploma with at least 4 years of relevant experience; or,
• Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Sciences or a related field from an accredited academic institution with 2 years of relevant professional experience.
Experience
• Previous experience with assistance to vulnerable migrants, including returnees.
• Work experience with diversity.
• Knowledge and experience with the UN system or other international organizations or civil society.
• Working knowledge of computer tools, excellent handling of Windows system and MS Office.
Languages
- Fluency in Portuguese and English is required.
- Advance knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
IOM official Languages are English, Spanish and French.
