Mission and objectives

The United Nations World Food Programme is the world's largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide. The mission of WFP is to help the world achieve Zero Hunger in our lifetimes. The country strategic plan is aligned with the United Nations sustainable development cooperation framework for Bangladesh for 2022‒2026 and the eighth five-year plan (covering the period July 2020‒June 2025) of the Government of Bangladesh. It is informed by the recommendations of an independent evaluation of the country strategic plan for 2017–2021 and consultation with key stakeholders. It will contribute to Sustainable Development Goals 2 and 17 through four strategic outcomes.

Context

The WFP Bangladesh country strategic plan (2022–2026) consists of four strategic outcomes. The Partnerships, Communication, and Reporting (PCR) unit is responsible for identifying new partnership, leveraging existing WFP partnership, and enhancing visibility of partners to support the achievement of its Country Strategic Plan outcomes. To support the country in reaching its long-term development goals and responding to the Rohingya crisis, WFP closely collaborates with UN agencies, non-governmental organization (NGO) partners, private sector actors, civil society, international financial institutions, donors, and research partners in line with its resource mobilization strategy.

Task description

Under the direct supervision of Head of Partnerships, Reporting and Communications, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

1. Assist in drafting press releases, compelling stories and other strategic communication products to enhance the Unit’s fundraising and donor engagement efforts

2. Capitalize significant events/international days to raise awareness of WFP’s work strategically and creatively

3. Monitor the media and social media space, come up with relevant research to help the Unit and the Country Office staff stay abreast of the latest social media trends, developments and risks

4. Assist in developing advocacy briefs, thank you letters, talking points, creative campaigns, media/communication events, etc.

5. Assist in visual content gathering and production

6. Assist in managing social media accounts

7. Undertake other responsibilities and tasks, as required.
