Mission and objectives

The FAO Representation to the Arab Republic of Egypt opened in 1978. The Organization has also taken the lead in supporting investments agriculture.

Context

The FAO Regional Office for Near East and North Africa (RNE) services Member Countries through technical support and development of capacities of national institutions, dedicated to agriculture and food security, including producing assessments and sectoral analysis, building regional partnerships and alliances, and providing up-to-date information, knowledge and data, and assistance to governments in evidence-based policy formulation. RNE supports countries through four regional priorities. RNE’s Regional Priority 3 (RP3) on Greening Agriculture seeks to support FAO-RNE’s member countries to address the region’s challenges around degradation of land, biodiversity and water resources, climate change as well as sustainability of fisheries and agricultural production, which disproportionately affect smallholder and vulnerable populations in the region.

FAO provides technical guidance, data, and tools to implement adaptation and mitigation actions for the agriculture sectors, and create synergies between the two, towards countries’ achievement of national climate goals. In addition, FAO provides technical and implementation support to climate finance projects, including Green Climate Fund (GCF), readiness, and Global Environment Facility (GEF) projects.
