Overview of position

Our client was established in 2011 under the auspices of the UN Department of Peacekeeping Operations (DPKO), subsequently, their mandate has been renewed through many resolutions.

Role objectives

Under the direct supervision of the Head of Welfare Operations, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

  • Perform regular, preventative maintenance, repairs of all fitness, welfare equipment (checks & services) at the mission HQ & all duty stations throughout the mission area.

  • Monitor stock of welfare owned equipment in the storage locations at MHQ & field offices locations including preliminary actions for stock replenishment.

  • Provide technical advice to the Chief of Unit, the FAOs & welfare committees on all matters related to welfare owned equipment at the mission HQ & field office locations.

  • Conduct regular stock taking of welfare expendable / non expandable items at MHQ & field offices & preparation of reports on discrepancies.

  • Assist in raising acquisitions for goods / services / works in conjunction with welfare owned equipment upon requests from field offices.

  • Assist Receipt & Inspection unit (R & I) with the inspection of welfare goods & ensure compliance with specifications in purchase orders.

  • Conduct periodic inventory & technical verification of welfare owned expendables / non expendables for purposes of transparency, accountability & restocking purposes.

  • Participate in the preparation & performance of welfare acquisition measures (drafting description of preliminary technical specifications for requirements, evaluation criteria, goods inspection, submission of deficiency reports, performing technical evaluations & dissemination plan for field offices).

  • Raise, monitor work order progress, order spare parts & complete service history on closed work orders.

  • Contribute to the proper management, maintenance & accounting of welfare owned assets at the mission HQ.

  • Contribute to identification, compilation & technical advise on welfare acquisition requirements through the preparation of description of quantities, technical specifications, evaluation criteria, goods inspection & submission of discrepancy report.

Project reporting

This role works under the direct supervision of the Head of Welfare Operations.

Key competencies
  • Technical or vocational diploma in mechanical engineering or similar field of expertise is required.

  • A minimum of five years of professional experience in commissioning, servicing, maintenance of electrical & mechanical machinery.

  • Proven experience in maintaining gym & cardio gym equipment will be considered an asset.

  • Experience in planning / organising, implementing events & large scale multi cultural sporting, recreational or other stress alleviating programs is required.

  • Knowledge in administration / logistics / acquisition / service delivery or supply chain management in an international or large scale organisation will be an advantage.

  • A minimum of three years proven professional working experience in an international & multi cultural post conflict / peace operation environment outside the country of origin is required.

  • Must be fluent in English.

  • Must possess a valid driving license.

  • Accountability, commitment to continuous learning, communication, integrity, planning, organizing & working in teams are some of the key competencies required for this role.
