The World Health Organization serves as the directing and coordinating authority for public health within the United Nations system. • Promoting intersectoral approaches
• Prioritizing health in all policies.
The Volunteer will engage with the World Health Organization (WHO) Eastern Mediterranean Regional Office (EMRO) Climate Change, Health, and Environment team. This role focuses on implementing the recently endorsed (EB 156/25) global action plan on climate change and health, at regional and national levels in the region, and implementing the Regional Resolution on Climate Change and Health EM/RC70/R.5. This assignment is integral to supporting the WHO's mission to advocate and work with partner agencies within the UN system, to ensure that health is properly represented in the climate change agenda, as well as providing and disseminating information on the threats that climate change presents to human health, and opportunities, to promote health while cutting carbon emissions; monitoring and evidence through coordinating reviews of the scientific evidence on the links between climate change and health; assessing country's preparedness and needs when facing climate change; and developing a global research agenda; assisting countries to build capacity to reduce health vulnerability to climate change, and promote health while reducing carbon emissions.

Task description
Under the direct supervision of Regional Adviser, Health Promotion and Social Determinants of Health, A/Regional Adviser for Environmental Health. The UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:
- Assist in implementing the recently endorsed (EB 156/25) global action plan on climate change and health, at regional and national levels in the region.
- Assist in implementing the Regional Resolution on Climate Change and Health EM/RC70/R.5.
- Provide technical support and capacity building activities to help the committed 15 EMR countries in building their climate change resilient and sustainable health systems and facilities.
- Advocate for the other 7 countries in joining ATACH (Alliance for Transformative Action on Climate Change and Health), and start addressing climate change and health.
- Develop a regional climate resilience and sustainability index for health care facilities, and use in measuring the base line in the countries of the region.
- Pilot greening health care facilities using the regional index.
- Contribute to the planning and delivery of webinar sessions and workshops aimed at climate change and environmental health, scheduled for 2025-2026.
- Assist in developing tailored educational materials and implementing targeted programmes.
- Support evidence data-base creation for priority countries in the EMR.
- Participate in the synthesis and collection of data for technical documents, including piloting of the WHO Behavioural Insights framework.
- Assist in implementing the recently endorsed (EB 156/25) global action plan on climate change and health, at regional and national levels in the region.
- Assist in implementing the Regional Resolution on Climate Change and Health EM/RC70/R.5.
