Middle East Communications and Advocacy Officer*
in Amman
The position is to be filled as soon as possible, with an initial contract duration of 31.12.25. There are very good prospects for an extension. The position will initially be offered as a remote contract, valid until the legal registration of our operations in Jordan is complete. Once registration is finalized, the successful candidate will be expected to relocate and be based in Amman.
WHH is establishing a regional hub in Amman to support its operations in West Asian countries, including Occupied Palestinian Territories, Jordan, Yemen, Iraq, Lebanon and Syria. As the regional communication and Advocacy Officer your main task would be to establish a system that produces high standard communication materials for WHH programs and projects that fall under the responsibility of the hub. Your work will entail close follow up advocacy discussions and supporting the head of mission, the senior policy officer, and the regional director in the analysis of these.
Your responsibilities
- Develop and manage engaging communications content (e.g. case studies, videos, photos, infographics, press releases, speeches) for donors, media, and public platforms.
- Maintain the hub’s digital presence, including social media accounts and webpages, ensuring regular, relevant updates and visual consistency.
- Act as the main communications focal point between the hub, head office and project teams, coordinating interviews, media responses, and high-level visits.
- Liaise with donors, journalists, and external partners on media and communications matters, ensuring alignment with WHH’s messaging and visibility standards.
- Support internal and crisis communications, and strengthen staff awareness of external communication protocols.
- Monitor and advise on partner NGO communications to ensure proper representation of WHH branding and contributions.
- Develop and implement a communications calendar in coordination with program teams and the head office.
- Represent WHH in advocacy forums and working groups, provide analysis and recommendations to senior management, and coordinate closely with the policy and communications teams on advocacy priorities.
Your profile
- University degree in communications, journalism, public relations, political science, international relations, or a related field.
- At least 2 years of relevant experience in communications, media relations, or advocacy, preferably in the humanitarian or development sector.
- Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills with the ability to tailor content to different audiences (e.g. donors, media, public).
- Experience in developing communication strategies and managing crisis or sensitive communications.
- Excellent interpersonal and coordination skills; ability to work across teams and cultures.
- Familiarity with donor visibility requirements and external communication standards (e.g. EU, UN, GIZ).
- Strong analytical skills and interest in advocacy and policy processes in humanitarian or development contexts.
- Experience in the region would be an asset.
- You recognize the growing value of data in your field and are eager to build your awareness and skills to incorporate data-informed approaches into your work.
- Readiness to receive necessary vaccinations for traveling to Welthungerhilfe's programme countries.
- The successful candidate must be willing and able to travel within the region, subject to security conditions and visa eligibility.
- You have a good command of written and spoken English and Arabic, knowledge of German would be an asset.
