Mission and objectives

Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is a specialized Agency established in October 1945, with the mission to contribute to eradicating hunger and achieving food security for all. It has a comprehensive mandate from its Members to work globally on all aspects of food and agriculture (including forestry, livestock and natural resources’ management), food security and nutrition. FAO has an extensive knowledge base and has comparative advantage as a knowledge broker; it strengthens its convening power. Regional and decentralized offices provide the opportunity to capitalize on successful experiences, engage partners, stakeholders and end-users to tailor knowledge products and services specifically to the needs and capacities. FAO has 26 member countries in Asia and 18 member countries in the Pacific region. FAO’s Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (FAO RAP) is based in Bangkok, Thailand.

Context

The FAO Emergency Centre for Transboundary Animal Diseases (ECTAD) plays a pivotal role in addressing animal health challenges in the Asia-Pacific region, particularly in the realm of One Health. Our initiatives focus on controlling significant transboundary animal diseases, such as African Swine Fever, which pose risks to food security, livelihoods, and public health. As a UN Volunteer, you will support our multimedia content creation efforts aimed at raising awareness and promoting our activities. This will involve producing high-quality photos, short-form videos, and campaign materials that showcase the impact of our programs and the importance of animal health management. You will work closely with communication and technical staff to develop engaging storytelling that highlights our successes and ongoing challenges. Your contributions will not only enhance our visibility but also facilitate knowledge-sharing across stakeholders, ultimately supporting our mission to improve animal health and safeguard communities across the region.
