Overview of positionUnder the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission & the direct supervision of the Project Manager for Peacebuilding / Head of Sub Office, the Project Assistant will play a key role in supporting the implementation of peacebuilding projects in Katsina, Zamfara & other states in northwest Nigeria. This position involves coordinating with local communities, government authorities & other stakeholders to advance peace initiatives, facilitate community engagement & enhance reconciliation efforts. The Project Assistant will also be responsible for monitoring project activities & contributing to reporting on peacebuilding outcomes. Support in the organisation of a quarter meeting with the state steering committee at the state level in Katsina & Zamfara in support of the implementation of the EU project “Conflict Prevention Crisis Response & Resilience (CPCRR)” program in Katsina & Zamfara in Nigeria.
Role objectivesConduct conflict assessments & analysis to identify conflict triggers, dynamics & potential solutions.
Identify & engage key community stakeholders, including community leaders, volunteers, relevant community based organizations, faith based organizations, religious leaders, heads of herders, farmers, community leaders & all influential groups for peace, to establish & manage Community Network Responses (CRNs).
Maintain a comprehensive database of CRN members & their skills / resources.
Organize & facilitate regular CRN meetings, ensuring active participation & collaboration among members.
One monthly meeting with the technical steering committee at the LGAs level & one meeting with the state steering committee at Katsina.
Develop & deliver training programs on conflict resolution, reconciliation & peacebuilding for community members, including CRNs & steering committee members at LGA, state government authorities & local authorities in Katsina & Zamfara states.
Provide guidance & support to community members in developing conflict mitigation & reconciliation action plans.
Establish & maintain effective communication channels within the community, including community meetings, workshops & information sharing platforms.
Ensure timely dissemination of critical information related to conflict mitigation & reconciliation efforts.
Prepare & submit regular reports on conflict analysis findings, community initiatives & CRN activities.
Collaborate closely with local authorities, non governmental organizations & other stakeholders involved in conflict mitigation, reconciliation & provide training in building their capacity related to conflict resolution & prevention.
Facilitate coordination of meetings & information-sharing among relevant parties.
Organize town hall meetings with the government & communities as planned in the projects.
Perform any other task as required by the Program Manager.
This role works under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission & the direct supervision of the Project Manager for Peacebuilding / Head of Sub Office.
University degree in development, social or political sciences, conflict management or a related field from an accredited academic institution with 3 years of relevant experience working in similar role or a high school diploma in the same fields with five years of relevant working experience.
Experience in coordination with other stake holders.
Experience in project implementation and in the field of “conflict mitigation & community reconciliation” to address conflict, promote peace & enhance community reconciliation in the Local Government Areas (LGA's).
Experience in conflict management & reconciliation is a plus.
Strong reporting skills.
Experience working in a complex crisis environment or a post conflict environment.
Experience in the application of good practice in project management such as participatory approaches & do no harm.
Demonstrates initiative, ability to work independently, as a member of a team to coordinate & / or lead the efforts to effectively meet M&E needs.
Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft (MS) Office applications, including Excel, Power Point, Word, Publisher & Share Point.
Good knowledge of information technology.
Previous work experience in international organizations & companies would be an advantage.
Strong sense of details & accuracy in all matters.
Reliable, able to work under pressure, good organizational skills & drive for results.
Knowledge about peacebuilding be an advantage.
Knowledge of the UN system & ideally of UN rules & regulations would be an advantage.
Fluency in English, Hausa & native languages spoken in the northwest of Nigeria.
