Overview of position
  • Our client was established in 1951 & they are a related organization of the United Nations (UN). As the leading UN agency in the field of migration, it works closely with governmental, intergovernmental & non governmental partners. They are dedicated to promoting humane & orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services, advice to governments & migrants. Their operations in Nigeria has a broad range of programming centred around key thematic areas such as peace building, climate change, displacement tracking matrix, migration governance & migration health. It does so by providing protection, empowerment, access to health, livelihood, social cohesion & life saving humanitarian assistance to mobile populations, Internally Displaced Persons (IDP's), hosting communities & vulnerable migrants.

  • Under the overall supervision of the Chief of mission, the direct supervision of the Head of Office & the technical guidance of the Monitoring & Evaluation Officer (as an additional supervisor), the Monitoring & Evaluation Associate will be responsible for supporting all aspects of Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E), as well as reporting requirements of the “conflict prevention, crisis response & resilience program’’ led by our client in partnership with Mercy Corps Netherlands (MCN) & the Centre for Democracy & Development (CDD) in Katsina & Zamfarah states of northwest region Nigeria.

Role objectives
  • Assist in collecting, maintaining & analysing various data for M&E activities.

  • File & compile reports that will be produced for the projects / programs / strategy & keep track of reporting schedules in line with the donor.

  • Assist in implementation of special assessments, surveys & operational research.

  • Participate in specific monitoring & reporting exercises as assigned.

  • Conduct preliminary analysis of findings of M&E exercises.

  • Keep track of the status of indicators that were set for the project / program / strategy, including our clients Strategic Results Framework (SRF) indicators.

  • Flag & bring to the attention of the Project / Program Manager, delays or challenges regarding data quality or compliance issues with our client, donor or partners’ M&E requirements.

  • Initiate & / or participate in specific field monitoring missions assigned to support data collection according to the monitoring plans, tools & risk monitoring processes.

  • Prepare inputs for project / initiate development according to specific needs & situation analysis in accordance with our clients standards for project proposal development & related M&E, RBM policies & guidance, in close coordination with the Head of Sub Office & other Project / Program Managers.

  • Provide relevant administrative backstopping support for the Project / Program Manager or the Project Officers.

  • Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

Project reporting

Key competencies
  • Bachelor’s degree in any of the following namely M&E, project planning, management & related fields, migration or population studies, demography, statistics, social science research or other relevant social science field with two years of relevant professional experience.

  • Demonstratable experience in M&E & reporting at field level in alignment with donor’s & implementing agency requirements.

  • At least two years of previous experience with our client, UN or other international organization in a similar role is an added advantage.

  • Experience with use of indicators, data collection & analysis.

  • Experience in data collection, analysis & reporting.

  • Excellent communication & analytical skills.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of field coordination with multiple partners for M&E & reporting.

  • Strong interpersonal & teamwork skills.

  • Proven ability to establish & maintain effective working relationships with people of diverse cultural & national backgrounds.

  • Fluency in English (oral & written).

  • Working knowledge of language(s) & / or language(s) popularly spoken in the duty station (Hausa & Fulani).
