Mission and objectives
The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) is the Secretariat Department responsible for strengthening international human rights mechanisms; enhancing equality and countering discrimination; combating impunity and strengthening accountability and the rule of law; integrating human rights in development and in the economic sphere; widening the democratic space; and early warning and protection of human rights in situations of conflict, violence and insecurity .
Context
Since 2023, the OHCHR Regional Office for Central America and the Dominican Republic has been implementing the regional project "Strengthening the Regional Approach to the protection of specific human rights in Latin America and the Caribbean". One of the three pillars of this project is the promotion and expansion of civic space and the protection of human rights defenders, including journalists, in the Latin American and Caribbean region. To achieve this objective, the country teams of the United Nations System for the promotion and protection of defenders will be strengthened; the capacities of civil society to monitor, document and report possible violations of their rights will be strengthened; and the capacities of government institutions will be strengthened, among other tasks.
Task description
Under the direct supervision of Regional Representative of the Regional Office for Central America and the Dominican Republic, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

Contribute to the identification, mapping, and strengthening of alliances with youth organizations and networks, including collectives of indigenous, Afro-descendant, mi-grant, LGBTIQ+, and climate activists, among others.
Assist in the design and facilitation of training, dialogue and exchange activities among youth, focused on capacity building in human rights, transformative leadership, advocacy tools and meaningful participation.
Collaborate in the production of educational materials, campaigns and digital content created jointly with young people, to amplify their voices, narratives and proposals from a perspective of human rights, diversity and intersectionality.
Contribute to the incorporation of youth perspectives, concerns and proposals into key regional and national processes, including multilateral spaces, human rights mechanisms and United Nations cooperation frameworks.
Support the systematization of good practices and youth experiences in human rights, in order to promote learning, generate evidence and strengthen the positioning of youth as key actors in the global movement.
Participate in inter-agency and inter-institutional initiatives aimed at promoting the rights of youth and their participation in sustainable development, democratic governance and climate justice.
