Context

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is the world’s largest humanitarian organization saving lives in emergencies and using food assistance to build a pathway to peace, stability and prosperity, for people recovering from conflict, disasters and the impact of climate change. WFP was awarded the 2020 Nobel Peace Prize. WFP began its operations in China in 1979. Today, we implement innovative pilot projects to enhance smallholder farmers’ livelihoods and improve preschool children’s nutrition, while mobilizing resources to support vulnerable populations. Additionally, we share China’s development expertise with other developing nations, advancing progress toward Sustainable Development Goal 2: Zero Hunger.
