Mission and objectives
The UN Resident Coordinator leads the UN Country Team in China, including all the UN entities present in China, and represents the UN Secretary General to the Government of China. The purpose of the Resident Coordinator system (RC system) is to bring together the different UN agencies to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of operational activities at the country level, helping the UN to be a more relevant and reliable partner for governments.
Context
The UN Resident Coordinators System (RCS) ensures the coordination of all UN organizations dealing with operational activities for development and aims to bring together different UN organizations to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of operational activities at the country level. The RCS encompasses the UN Resident Coordinator (UNRC), the UN Country Team (UNCT) and Resident Coordinator’s Office (RCO). The UN Resident Coordinator leads the UNCT to deliver together more coherent, effective and efficient support in China. The RCO supports the role and functions of the UN Resident Coordinator and provides inter-agency coordination support to the UNCT and its various inter-agency working mechanisms and groups. Critical functions of the RCO include: strategic analysis, planning and positioning of the country team; preparation and monitoring of the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF); support to joint UN programming and operations management; policy guidance; joint advocacy and communications in order to enhance UN coherence and improve overall programme impact of the UN System in China.
The United Nations Sustainable Development Country Framework 2021-2025 for China was signed. The RCO/UNCT is coordinating to finalize the UNSDCF for the next cycle. Implementation of UNSDCF needs strong partnership, advocacy and collaboration with stakeholders. The UNRC/RCO are closely engaged with these stakeholders to further enhance development work in China. The RCO is looking for a motivated candidate to join the team on a full-time basis and support the Executive Office in assisting the UNRC and RCO.
The position will provide the successful candidate with a unique opportunity to learn about how the UN system operates at the country level. Among others, the candidate will: actively engage in the support to high-level meetings and activities of the UN; learn about the functions and roles of a wide range of UN organizations; gain insight into the UNSDCF implementation process; and become familiar with how the UN interacts with different stakeholders.

Task description
Under the direct supervision of Executive Associate to the UNRC, the National UN Youth Volunteer will:
• Coordination and administrative assistance to the UNRC and Executive Office
• Support document flow and archives according to office standards
• Provide simple translation/interpretation services when necessary
• Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.
Furthermore, UN Volunteers are encouraged to integrate the UN Volunteers programme mandate within their assignment and promote voluntary action through engagement with communities in the course of their work. As such, UN Volunteers should dedicate a part of their working time to some of the following suggested activities:
• Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day);
• Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country;
• Provide annual and end of assignment self- reports on UN Volunteer actions, results and opportunities.
• Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.;
• Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers;
• Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering, or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.
