Job Description

The IOM Country Office for Belgium & Luxembourg implements projects covering a broad range of thematic areas, including migration and development, labour migration, integration, counter-trafficking, assistance to vulnerable migrant groups and unaccompanied migrant children.

Under the direct supervision of the Senior Partnership and Liaison Assistant, in coordination with the project teams, and under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission, the incumbent will provide general support to the communications and visibility activities of the Country Office for Belgium and Luxemburg. The incumbent will contribute to the routine tasks related to information management and internal/external communication efforts.  

Responsibilities

In particular, the incumbent will: 

  1. Collect and organize media and social media content relevant to the work of the Country Office; assist in making basic updates of the Office’s social media platforms (LinkedIn, Instagram, Spotify, Facebook), as instructed.
  2. Assist in formatting and organizing communication materials, including website articles, press releases, social media posts, prepared by the supervisor or other team members.  
  3. Draft and format simple documents including information sheets, presentation slides, and internal and external communication materials, based on available templates and under guidance.
  4. Assist programme teams in formatting visibility materials and documents according to donor visibility templates or guidelines, when provided.
  5. Receive and redirect incoming media and communication-related requests inquiries to the relevant focal points within the team.
  6. Monitor and record references to IOM in the local and international media, as well as social media platforms; compile basic summaries for internal reference.
  7. As guided by the supervisor, support the team in maintaining internal communication channels by sharing updates, announcements, or relevant documents.
  8. Any other tasks as may be required.

Qualifications

Education

  • High School diploma with three (3) years of relevant professional experience;

 or,

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in journalism, communications, social science, international relations, migration studies or related field from an accredited academic institution with one (1) year of relevant professional experience. 

Experience

  • Demonstrated initial working experience or internship in communications, project management support, reporting, or monitoring.
  • Experience in organizing and  supporting trainings is considered an asset.
  • Experience in working directly with migrants is considered an asset.
  • Work experience in the private sector is considered an advantage.
  • Work experience or internship in the field of migrant assistance, migrant integration or journalism is considered an asset.

Skills

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills; 
  • Team-oriented, with well-developed interpersonal, communication, and diplomatic skills applied in a professional environment;
  • Ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines.

Languages 

Fluency in English and Dutch (oral and written) is required.

Working knowledge in French is required
