Danish Refugee Council, one of the world’s leading humanitarian NGOs, is currently looking for a highly qualified Protection Assistant -PSS for our Sheraro, Tigray Office.
About the job:
Under the supervision of the Protection Specialist - CM and MHPSS, the Protection Assistant (PSS) will provide comprehensive psychosocial support services (PSS) to targeted individuals and communities. S/he will work closely with individuals, families and community groups to address their emotional, social and mental health needs and promote their recovery and resilience-building processes.
Your main duties and responsibilities will be:
Responsibilities:
- Provide individual psychosocial support to DRC people of conceren
- Support the designing and delivery of psychoeducational awareness sessions (both content and materials) on psychosocial topics, including stress management, available mental health services, and coping skills
- Support the country emergency team in emergency response efforts within and outside Addis Ababa, ensuring that psychosocial support (PSS) is provided to the community during emergency period
- Collaborate with other service providers, such as healthcare professionals and social workers, and make appropriate referrals and follow-up when needed.
- Foster community participation and engagement in psychosocial support activities, encouraging the active involvement of individuals, families, and community stakeholders.
- Identify and support, including through awareness and capacity-building, local resources, such as community-based organizations or volunteers, to enhance the availability of community-based psychosocial support
- Participate in capacity-building sessions as needed and required.
- Contribute to developing and continuously updating a service mapping system detailing available services and assistance in DRC’s areas of operation.
- Closely work with legal aid staff, community workers and volunteers in Addis Ababa.
- Any other duties that may be assigned by the Protection Specialist relevant to achieving protection objectives
Experience and technical competencies:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Knowledge of community resources and social service programs related with mental health, protection, etc
- Proficiency in basic computer skills and data entry
- Previous experience in mental health, protection or community-based setting is an asset.
EDUCATION: (include certificates, licenses, etc.)
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional training or certificate in human services or related field is preferred.
LANGUAGE: (indicate fluency level)
- Proficient of English language
- Knowledge of local language is an advantage
