SCOPE OF WORK: The Health Team Intern will work closely with the IRC Health Team to assist clients with their healthcare needs. This may include transportation assistance, care coordination, and advocacy.

SCOPE OF WORK: The Health Team Intern will work closely with the IRC Health Team to assist clients with their healthcare needs. This may include transportation assistance, care coordination, and advocacy.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Attend Volunteer/Intern Orientation
  • Provide transportation for clients and their families to medical, dental, and vision appointments.
  • Implement a transit orientation to familiarize clients with the available modes of public transportation they can use to attend medical, dental, and vision appointments.
  • Assist Health Team with administrative tasks (phone calls, filing, collecting signed paperwork, making medical appointments, etc.)
  • Assist clients on an as-needed basis (prescription assistance, medical bill assistance, etc.)

·Record hours and submit completed timesheet for each month via the IRC’s online Volunteer Dashboard.

Minimum Qualifications:

·Strong interpersonal skills and interest in working with the refugee community

·Be sensitive to the differences of the clients. Respect their beliefs and values, which may differ from yours. 

·Ownership of a car and a valid driver’s license and car insurance

·Willingness to transport clients in your personal vehicle

·Willingness to be flexible and accommodating to client needs

·Familiarity with the Charlottesville public transportation system or a willingness to familiarize oneself with the Charlottesville public transportation system

This position is unpaid and reports to IRC Charlottesville's Health Program Coordinator.
