Internship Office Background:  

Under the overall guidance of the Deputy Resident Representative and the direct supervision of the Communications Analyst, the Intern will contribute to the implementation of the UNDP Kuwait Communications Strategy, which aims to enhance visibility, strengthen partnerships, and increase public awareness of UNDP’s work in support of Kuwait’s national development priorities and Vision 2035.

The Intern will collaborate closely with the programme team as required.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Communications Analyst, the intern will support the implementation of the UNDP Kuwait communications strategy. Responsibilities may include:

Content Creation

  • Draft social media posts (English/Arabic) aligned with UNDP messaging.
  • Assist in writing blog posts and press releases.
  • Support the development of video scripts, captions, and interview questions.
  • Edit short videos for social media with text on screen.
  • Assist in developing messaging grids for events, campaigns or international days.

Media & Digital Engagement

  • Monitor media coverage related to UNDP Kuwait.
  • Assist in organizing media engagement opportunities and maintaining media lists.
  • Track social media analytics and suggest content optimization strategies.
  • Update and organize contact lists.

Events and Campaigns

  • Assist in the coordination and promotion of campaigns, events, and public outreach activities.
  • Provide on-site support during events and workshops.
  • Support with content creation of newsletters and design on Mailchimp.

Coordination Support

  • Maintain communication assets and archive (photos and videos).
  • Support documentation and reporting of communication activities.
  • Assist with tasks as needed by the communications analyst.
  • Prepare monthly analytics reports summarizing performance across Instagram, X, LinkedIn.
Competencies
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Arabic.
  • Knowledge of social media platforms (Instagram, X, LinkedIn, etc.).
  • Familiarity with video editing tools.
  • Ability to work independently, be proactive and meet deadlines.
  • Creativity, attention to detail, and organizational skills.

Eligibility 

At the time of application, Applicants to the UNDP internship programme must meet one of the following requirements:

(a) Be enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme (such as a master's programme or higher);

(b) Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (such as a bachelor's degree or equivalent);

(c) Have recently graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one year of graduation.

(d) Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program and undertake the internship as part of this program.

A person who is the child or sibling of a UNDP staff member is not eligible to apply for an internship at UNDP. An applicant who bears any other family relationship with a UNDP staff member may be engaged as an intern, provided that they must neither be assigned to the same work unit as the staff member nor be placed under the direct or indirect supervision of the staff member.

For purposes of this policy, "child" means (i) the adult child of a staff member, (ii) the adult child of the spouse of a staff member (stepchild), and (iii) the spouse of an adult child of a staff member or the child of a staff member's spouse (son- or daughter-in-law). "Sibling" includes the adult child of both or either parent of a staff member and the adult child of the spouse of a parent of a staff member (that is, also half- and stepsibling).

Internship Conditions

  • UNDP will not pay interns for internships but will provide a stipend. The amount will be paid monthly per the provisions of the UNDP internship policy; all other expenses connected with it will be borne by the interns or by the sponsoring Government or institution.
  • UNDP accepts no responsibility for costs arising from accidents and/or illness or death incurred during the internship.
  • Interns are responsible for obtaining necessary visas and arranging travel to and from the duty station where the internship will be performed.
  • Interns may apply and be considered for other positions at UNDP during the period of the internship.
  • Interns must provide proof of enrolment in a health insurance plan.
  • Interns are not staff members and may not officially represent UNDP.
  • Interns are expected to work full-time, but flexibility is allowed for education programmes;
  • Interns need to obtain financing for subsistence and make their arrangements for internship, travel, VISA, accommodation, etc.

  • Fluency in English and Arabic is required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and Arabic.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to think creatively and contribute innovative ideas.
  • Ability to use digital and social media platforms.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Basic knowledge of design and multimedia tools.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a multicultural environment.
  • Sensitivity to political, cultural, and national differences and adaptability to multicultural environments.
