Job Overview:
The Communication Manager will support the Ethiopia Rapid Response Mechanism (ET-RRM), a multi-donor, multi-million EUR project led by IRC in a consortium of humanitarian partners, by leading strategic communication and visibility efforts that amplify the program’s impact, accountability, and public engagement. This includes producing timely, accurate, and brand-aligned content across print, digital, and social media platforms; coordinating storytelling, photography, and reporting; and developing creative, platform-specific campaigns that resonate with diverse audiences. The Manager will also enhance the consortium’s digital presence and visibility compliance through tailored trainings, participation in Program Operations Meetings (POMs), and the preparation of donor-compliant visibility tools such as fact sheets and toolkits. A strong command of digital trends, content analytics, and visual storytelling is essential to proactively strengthen the consortium’s outreach and reputation.
Major Responsibilities:
Branding & Visibility Coordination
- Ensure the consistent use of ET-RRM branding across all platforms and publications, by all partners.
- Apply logo placement and size guidelines across print and digital materials.
- Coordinate with implementing partners to enforce adherence to branding standards.
- Update the communication toolkit whenever needed.
- Monitor and maintain visual coherence across all social media channels, aligning with branding goals and audience expectations.
2. Content Creation & Storytelling
- Collect, draft, and edit human-interest stories from the field.
- Review and edit content from area leads and upload to ET-RRM social media pages (Facebook, Twitter/X, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.).
- Develop engaging and platform-specific social media posts to increase reach, engagement, and audience retention.
- Monitor performance and audience interaction to adjust tone, format, and strategy as needed.
- Collect required information for monthly snapshots.
- Organize, coordinate, and lead any visibility efforts by professional teams hired by IRC (or partners) for visibility or storytelling purposes
3. Photography & Visual Content
- Capture and curate high-quality photographs with appropriate captions and visibility elements.
- Create or supervise the development of engaging multimedia content (photo essays, short videos, reels, infographics) optimized for different platforms.
- Maintain a database of approved, impactful visuals that can be reused or repurposed for multiple media formats.
4. Messaging & Public Communication
- Draft and edit press releases, social media content, media statements, and live coverage (where applicable) using standard phrasing and tone.
- Ensure all external statements are reviewed and approved before publication.
- Design and implement timely digital campaigns around key events, response activation and milestones.
5. Reporting & Information Management
- Lead Tier 1 (immediate) and Tier 2 (monthly) communication reporting.
- Compile situational reports, key milestones, and numeric data from field teams.
- Draft monthly update snapshots, including activities, challenges, and lessons learned.
- Monitor social media analytics and engagement metrics to inform content strategy.
- Coordinate and update shared communication platforms (Teams, Box Drive, Email).
6. Capacity Building & Support
- Train and guide field staff and focal points on branding, digital storytelling, and effective social media communication.
- Provide editorial support and feedback to partners.
- Contribute to the development and revision of templates, visual assets, and digital branding guides.
- There will be 50% travel to other locations
Impact of Work: On top of the routine and outlined execution of basic tasks, this position is expected to proactively offer suggestions and strategies to strengthen ET-RRM’s digital visibility and audience engagement. Creativity, initiative, and the ability to identify emerging trends in humanitarian communication are of immense added value.

Minimum Qualifications:
Educational Requirements:
- BA/MBA graduate in Communications, Journalism, Public Relation, related field of study
Preferred experience & skills:
- Minimum 3 years for master's holders and 4 years of relevant experience for Degree holders
- Experience in humanitarian or development communication.
- Proven strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills across multiple formats.
- Demonstrated expertise in managing and growing professional social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter/X, LinkedIn, YouTube).
- Ability to develop platform-specific content strategies and leverage analytics tools (e.g., Meta Insights, Twitter Analytics, Buffer, Hootsuite).
- Proficiency in photography, graphic design, video editing, and use of creative tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, CapCut).
- Familiarity with donor visibility guidelines (e.g., ECHO, Irish Aid) is an asset.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills; proven ability to prioritize and deliver on time.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to be clear and concise in all communications.
- Experience in content calendar planning and integrated campaigns around humanitarian themes.
- Strong analytical problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work both independently and in a dynamic, cross-functional team structure.
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Office suite.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
- Proactive and flexible in responding to change and digital communication trends.
Language Skills:
- Fluency in English (written and spoken); additional local languages are an asset.
