The Global Energy (CEMEN) unit, in collaboration with the regional industry groups, is responsible for IFC's energy business, including power generation with a focus on renewables, transmission and distribution, and innovative clean energy technologies such as battery storage and green hydrogen.
IFC is recruiting a Senior Industry Specialist to provide technical advice and support to its investment teams. The primary focus of the position will be on the MCT (Middle East, Central Asia & Turkey) region, but it will also support other regions. The position will be based in Dubai, Riyadh or Vienna and will report to IFC's Global Energy Sector Manager in Washington D.C.
Roles and Responsibilities
• Support IFC’s investment decision making process by leading the technical appraisal of energy investment transactions, with a focus on renewable generation and transmission & distribution projects. Such appraisals can include site visits, hiring and supervision of external consultants , review of major contracts (PPA, EPC, FSA, O&M and concession), assessing / proposing key technical inputs for incorporation in financial models, and preparing reports assessing the technical risk.
• Support portfolio management by monitoring all technical aspects of portfolio energy investments throughout construction and on into operation. This can include field inspections or other measures as necessary to address or resolve specific problems or issues.
• Contribute to sector work (e.g., identifying market trends, developing and implementing sector strategies or initiatives) to respond to business needs and grow the pipeline of projects.
• Maintain and build power sector knowledge and support best practice knowledge sharing.
• Liaise with clients’ technical staff, project engineers and lenders' engineers.
• Hire and supervise specialized engineering firms as necessary.
