Role and responsibilities

The Education Technical Assistant will be responsible for supporting the implementation and follow-up of NRC’s education activities at the field level. This includes assisting the Education Officer, working closely with the Woreda Education Office, supporting target schools, facilitating the distribution of learning materials, and participating in beneficiary selection. The role also involves active community engagement, non-specialized psychosocial support, and contributing to assessments and data collection.

Generic Responsibilities

  • Support school directors and cluster supervisors in community mobilization, learner enrollment, school cleaning campaigns, and distribution of educational materials.
  • Follow up on and ensure the effective implementation of education activities at the field level.
  • Participating in area-level education needs assessments, data collection, and field-level monitoring.
  • Facilitate assessments for learning and assist in organizing capacity-building activities.
  • Collaborate closely with Parent-Teacher-Student Associations (PTSAs) and school management committees to ensure inclusive and community-driven education support.
  • Collect feedback from beneficiaries and share relevant findings with the education team and M&E department.
  • Support literacy improvement efforts for both internally displaced and host community children.
  • Mobilize IDP children to access education and ensure proper documentation and archiving.
  • Promote inclusive education by supporting the enrollment and retention of children with disabilities.
  • Maintain and update learners’ data, submitting bi-weekly and monthly reports as required.
  • Promote and uphold NRC’s standards and principles on the Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) across all program activities and among targeted beneficiaries.

Monitoring, evaluation and quality assurance

  • Monitor filed based project activities and collect feedback 
  • Ensure the functionality of community structures and CFM committees. 

Other

  • Follow up and collect filed based changes, record meeting action points and share education officer. 
  • Conduct any other related tasks assigned by line manager.

Specific responsibilities

  • Report directly to the Education Coordinator on all education-related activities and carry out additional duties as assigned.
  • Work in close collaboration with the woreda Education Officer, target schools, cluster supervisors, community structures, Kebele leaders, and other field-level partners to ensure coordinated implementation of education interventions.
  • Liaise with relevant stakeholders, including government and community-based structures, to enhance local ownership, coordination, and support for project implementation.
  • Conduct regular field visits to  target schools , skill training centers and work in collaboration with consortium partners including support kebeles to monitor education service delivery and support the reintegration of out-of-school children.
  • Monitor project implementation in intervention sites across the woreda , ensuring alignment with planned activities and objectives.
  • Ensure the functionality and child-friendliness of ECE centers, promoting access to quality pre-primary learning and structured play for young children.
  • Facilitate and follow up on life skills sessions, student-led clubs, and co-curricular activities that promote learners' well-being and social-emotional development.
  • Collaborate with schools and local structures to mobilize children for school enrollment, especially focusing on out-of-school, displaced, and vulnerable children.
  • Support schools in strengthening learner retention strategies, improving daily attendance, and addressing dropout and re-enrollment issues through targeted follow-up and community engagement.
  • Participate actively in the identification and selection of project beneficiaries, ensuring fairness, transparency, and inclusion.
  • Coordinate and support the distribution of teaching and learning materials and ensure timely collection and submission of distribution reports and documentation.
  • Contribute to data collection and field-level monitoring activities, ensuring accurate and timely information feeds into project planning and reporting.

Monitoring, Reporting, and Adherence to Standards

  • Continuously provide project updates, reports, and reviews to the Education Officer and Coordinator.
  • Reflect and adhere to NRC’s core values throughout the implementation of the project cycle.
