Mission and objectives
UNFPA is the lead UN agency for delivering a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe and every young person's potential is fulfilled. UNFPA’s strategic plan (2022-2025), reaffirms the relevance of the current strategic direction of UNFPA and focuses on three transformative results: to end preventable maternal deaths; end unmet need for family planning; and end gender-based violence and harmful practices. These results capture our strategic commitments on accelerating progress towards realizing the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) and SDGs in the Decade of Action leading up to 2030.
Context
Related to its work supporting countries in planning for and adapting to demographic change, UNFPA has a global work programme with Statistics Korea (KOSTAT), with a special focus on the issues of low fertility and ageing. This global work programme has some elements, including research; support for data collection, analysis and use in countries; producing technical publications; and organising a large annual Global Symposium on a topic related to low fertility and population ageing (held every year in Seoul in October - December over 2-3 days for approximately 70-100 international participants. The website of the 2024 Global Symposium can be found here for reference).
This UNV assignment will provide project management and coordination support for the KOSTAT-UNFPA global work programme, including leading the organization of the annual Global Symposium.
