Duties and Responsibilities

BACKGROUND: ITC’s Tech Sector Development team is part of the Sector and Enterprise Competitiveness Section (SEC) within the Division for Enterprise Competitiveness and Institutions (DECI). The team consists of four professionals and one programme management assistant at headquarters in Geneva, and colleagues based in Uganda and Benin. The team implements a number of projects related to the services and the technology sectors in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean. The projects aim to support the growth of beneficiary companies through training, coaching, linkages with potential market partners, and to strengthen the ecosystems in which they operate. The goal of the intern is to support the management of the #FastTrackTech ‘digital entrepreneurship & IT outsourcing’ toolkit, including publications, and research work within DECI/SEC and allow ITC to reach out to a larger number of IT & ITES SMEs, tech start-ups as well as micro-workers and freelancers. DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES The intern will work under the direct supervision of the Tech Sector Development Coordinator, and the overall guidance of Chief, DECI/SEC. He/she will carry out the following duties, with a focus on programme management, and IT sector development projects: Project Management Support • Support activities related to the organisation of the team’s and beneficiary companies’ attendance at events and training programmes. • Support the preparation of project implementation missions to the field, in coordination with officers and country partners. • Provide support and assistance in the preparation of project-related documentation, in particular under the Monitoring & Evaluation framework. Research • Undertake desk research and sector surveys as per requirements, with a particular focus on Information and Communication Technologies, tech startups & Innovation, Investors. • Contribute to the development of reports and other write-ups • Prepare briefing materials on related promotion good practices (Word, PowerPoint, Canva). Communications • Assist in disseminating communication materials, in particular online (project webpages, social media, email marketing). • Assist in the production of flyers, company directories and other communication materials ITC champions workforce diversity, inclusion, gender equality and gender parity and considers all qualified persons - of all genders - equally, including those with disabilities, without discrimination or prejudice of any kind.

Qualifications/special skills

Applicants to the programme shall, at the time of application, meet one of the following requirements: a) Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or b) Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent); c) Have graduated with a university degree (as defined in a or b above) and, if selected, shall commence the internship within one year of graduation. Relevant field of studies e.g. business studies, international trade, development.

Languages

Fluent English, French and/or Spanish. Computer literate, particularly with relation to Microsoft Office and social media. Good communication and analytical skills and the capacity to present findings clearly in writing and orally. Consultancy and/or business analysis experience would be an advantage.

LEARNING ELEMENTS 1. Develop proficiency in project management techniques, by enhancing skills in organizing and coordinating events and training programs, including logistics management, scheduling, and budgeting. Learn how to effectively support the implementation of projects in the field, collaborating with officers and country partners. 2. Deepen knowledge in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and tech startups by undertaking comprehensive desk research and sector surveys to stay updated on the latest trends, innovations, and investment opportunities in the ICT and tech startup sectors. Develop a solid understanding of emerging technologies and their potential applications. 3. Enhance digital communication skills by implementing the Digital Communications strategy and gaining practical experience in managing online platforms, such as project webpages, social media, and email marketing. Student work plans can be adjusted to achieve the academic requirements in their field of study or time can be made available to advance their academic obligations.
