Mission and objectives

UNFPA is the lead UN agency for delivering a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe and every young person's potential is fulfilled. UNFPA’s strategic plan, focuses on three transformative results: to end preventable maternal deaths; end unmet need for family planning; and end gender-based violence and harmful practices. UNFPA has been operating in India since 1974.

Context

The India Country Office is now in its 10th Country Programme (CP-10). CP-10 envisions an India where every woman and young person, including those from the most vulnerable groups, enjoys gender equality, fully realizes sexual and reproductive health and reproductive rights, and fully contributes to sustainable development. Guided by the new UNFPA Strategic Plan, 2022-2025, the Programme of Action of the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the new country programme will galvanize efforts to end preventable maternal deaths, unmet need for family planning, and gender-based violence and harmful practices, including in humanitarian situations. 17. The country programme was developed in consultation with national and State governments, civil society, United Nations organizations and other stakeholders, including women and youth-led organizations, based on the principles of inclusion, human rights and gender equality.

In this context, the Communications Associate will play an active role in:
● Communicating with impact and increasing the visibility of UNFPA programmes and advocacy interventions
● Providing support in developing knowledge products with the technical and programme team
● Documenting programmatic interventions for advocacy and outreach

Task description

As part of the UNFPA State Office and under the direct supervision of the Head of State, and under technical oversight and coordination with the Communications and Media units at UNFPA Country Office, the Communications Associate will be responsible for undertaking the following activities:

● Support in the execution of state specific communications and media strategy and plan
● Draft and design programmatic communications products such as leaflets, facts sheets, posters, powerpoint presentations
● Support in drafting and editing talking points, remarks/speeches/press release and briefing notes for meetings/events
● Draft, edit and produce programmatic success stories, human interest stories testimonials for reports and external communications
● Coordinate with Implementing Partners/Vendors to execute programme communications products such as case studies, photo and video documentation etc.
● Support the team with curation and coordination of events, campaigns and workshops
● Provide inputs in finalizing the communication materials on various thematic areas (toolkits/manuals/BCC/modules) developed in support with implementing partners
● Develop databases of the media personnel, media institutions and media houses for facilitating effective engagement with them
● Maintain database and repositories of communication assets /materials /photo/videos – with thematic categorization proper referencing
● Coordinate with the Communications and Media unit to highlight programmatic impact, interventions, events on social media
● Perform any other duties as requested by the State Head

Furthermore, UN Volunteers are encouraged to integrate the UN Volunteers programme mandate within their assignment and promote voluntary action through engagement with communities in the course of their work. As such, UN Volunteers should dedicate a part of their working time to some of the following suggested activities:
• Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day);
• Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host state.
• Provide annual and end of assignment self-reports on UN Volunteer actions, results, and opportunities.
• Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.;
• Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers;
• Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.
