Context
The Second World Summit for Social Development (WSSD2) will be held in Doha, Qatar, from November 4-6, 2025. This summit, convened under UN General Assembly resolution A/RES/78/318, will focus on advancing global social development and social justice. It builds upon the 1995 Copenhagen Declaration and Programme of Action and aims to reaffirm commitments to people-centered, inclusive, and equitable development. The summit is organized by the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) and the Government of Qatar. UN-DESA, in partnership with UNV, will mobilize 60 youth of Qatari citizens and residents to support the Hotel and accommodation services in the WSSD2.
Task description
Under the direct supervision of the UN Volunteer Team Leader, the incumbtant will carry out the following tasks:
• Support the reception of participants at the hotels, ensure facilitation of procedures, and ensuring smooth coordination with the hotels.
• Keep track of attendance, punctuality, and performance, and report any issues or concerns to the UNV coordination team.
• Attend the induction sessions organized by UNV, UN DESA, and the Host Government.
• Identify and resolve minor challenges faced by visitors or escalate issues to event coordinators when necessary.
• Ensure a positive, inclusive, and respectful team environment aligned with UN values and WSSD’s objectives.
• Contribute to daily reports or summaries highlighting key volunteer activities, lessons learned, and success stories.
• Uphold high standards of professionalism, integrity, and enthusiasm, setting a positive example for all volunteers.
In addition to the above, UN Volunteers are encouraged to integrate into the UNV mandate within the framework of their assignment and to promote voluntary action through community integration in the development of their work. As such, UN Volunteers should dedicate part of their working time to one of the following recommended activities:
• Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications, as well as play an active role in UNV activities (e.g. International Volunteer Day events);
• To know and develop the traditional and/or local forms of volunteering in the host country;
• Provide annual and end-of-assignment self-assessment reports on UNV actions, results and opportunities;
• Contribute articles/critiques of their experiences in the field and send them to headquarters for inclusion on the UNV website, publications, pamphlets/newsletters, press releases, etc.;
• Assist with the Mentoring Programme for new UN Youth Volunteers;
• Encourage or advise local groups on the use of UNV's Online Volunteering service or promote the use of the service to relevant local individuals and organizations where technically feasible.
