Duties and Responsibilities

BACKGROUND: The International Trade Centre is the joint agency of the United Nations and the World Trade Organization, which provides technical assistance and capacity building to policymakers, the private sector and trade and investment support organisations to help them use trade as an engine for sustainable growth and employment generation. ITC works to support the achievement of the sustainable Development Goals by connecting micro, small and medium enterprises to global value chains. By enabling small business export success in developing countries, ITC helps generate sustainable incomes and livelihoods, especially for women and youth while taking into consideration sustainable elements such as the environment and social responsibility. The Institutions and Ecosystems Section (I&E) is in the Division of Enterprise Competitiveness and Institutions (DECI) of the International Trade Centre (ITC) and is responsible for managing ITC’s headquarters-based trade related technical assistance programmes for building the institutional capacity of Business Support Organisations (BSOs) to produce, deliver and market export & investment development and promotion services. DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES The intern will report directly to the Senior Officer, Organisations and Ecosystems Development, under the overall supervision of the Chief, Institutions and Ecosystems Section. He/she will carry out the following duties, as required: Digital Communications • Assist in the implementation of the Digital Communications strategy of I&E Section • Assist in disseminating communication materials, in particular online (webpages of the section under www.intracen.org, social media, email marketing) Project Management • Manage autonomously project related activities, in particular related to capacity building of entrepreneurship support organizations (ESOs) such as incubators and accelerators • Provide support and assistance in the preparation of project related documentation and in project implementation • Provide support in the management of the www.ITCBenchmarking.org platform Research • Undertake desk research and BSO surveys as per requirements • Prepare briefing materials on trade & investment promotion good practices (word, powerpoint) • Contribute to the development of assessment reports and other write-ups ITC champions workforce diversity, inclusion, gender equality and gender parity and considers all qualified persons - of all genders - equally, including those with disabilities, without discrimination or prejudice of any kind.

Qualifications/special skills

a) Be enrolled in the final academic year of the first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); OR b) Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); OR c) Have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within one year of graduation. Skills • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office and digital communications tools is preferable. • Fluent English, with working knowledge of French a distinct plus. • Good communication and analytical skills and the capacity to present findings clearly in writing and orally. • Knowledge of Business Support Organisations and their environment.

Languages

• Advanced knowledge of English is required. Working knowledge of French is desirable.
