Organizational Setting and Reporting Relationship

The position of Senior Investment Officer is assigned to the Equity Investment Unit (EIU) under the Office of the Director General (OPSD) within the Private Sector Operations Department (PSOD). You will be based at our Headquarters in Manila, Philippines.

You will report to the designated Technical International Staff and will oversee junior team members.

Your Role

As a Senior Investment Officer, you will support the investment activities of ADB Ventures, including due diligence, deal execution, portfolio management, as well as administration.

You will:

a. Mainstreaming ADB Ventures into PSOD operations

  • Support the operations of the ADB Ventures and contribute to the pipeline of high impact non-sovereign projects.

  • Support identification, incubation and scaling of innovative technology solutions, that increase the development inclusiveness and effectiveness of ADB's operations.

b. Investment responsibilities

  • Support the sourcing of new investment opportunities and build a high-quality investment pipeline, including by leveraging personal networks and relationships.

  • Evaluate opportunities for investment, assess investment risks, analyze financial data, build financial models, and perform business and investment valuation.

  • Support the full investment life-cycle from due diligence, close process, pre and post funding support to follow-on funding and exit management.

  • Support the analysis of markets and sectors, and tracking of investment trends and deals.

  • Support portfolio companies on various management, strategy and funding issues.

  • Manage day-to-day fund operations and administration, including overseeing portfolio and impact monitoring and management and investor/donor reporting.

  • Support fund investor management and fundraising operations

c. Strategy and Planning

  • Support the development of policy and strategies for ADB's developmental goals for the private sector in consultation with relevant stakeholders
  • Coordinate work with other departments on project related and strategy policy matters

d. Knowledge Sharing

  • Participate in and contribute substantially to relevant learning events and other activities for advocacy, dissemination and knowledge building.
  • Draft, review, and provide comments on project, policy, and other papers related to private sector development and operations.
  • Maintain and share knowledge of emerging best practices in the market.

e. Staff Supervision

  • Supervise the performance of reporting staff, providing clear direction and regular monitoring and feedback on performance
  • Ensure the on-going learning and development of reporting staff.

Qualifications

You will need:

  • Bachelor's degree in management or finance preferably with a Master's degree or equivalent.
  • At least 8 years of relevant experience with venture capital and support of early-stage technology businesses and at least 4 years of supervisory experience.
  • Experience in working with venture capital funds, including fund administration and reporting.
  • Experience across the early-stage investment cycle, including deal origination, conducting end to end due diligence, deal execution and portfolio management.
  • Experience and genuine interest in startups and technology, particular in fintech, agritech, and healthtech preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

Additional Information

This appointment is open to internal and external applicants.

This position is funded by a temporary funding source (e.g., a trust fund, financing facility, or capital expenditure budget) and therefore, the renewal of the appointment and its duration are subject to the availability of the funding source.

This is a fixed term appointment with option to renew, initially for a period of up to 3 years, or up to the Normal Retirement Date (NRD), whichever comes earlier, for the purpose(s) and conditions determined by ADB, in accordance with Administrative Order No. 2.01 (Recruitment and Appointment). After the initial fixed-term period, ADB may choose to renew the appointment for up to an additional 3 years or not renewed. This decision will be made in the overall interest of ADB, based on factors including but not limited to the requirement of Staff's particular blend of skills and experience for the medium-term work program of the organizational unit, sufficient funding to cover the renewed period, and Staff's performance and suitability for employment. There is no limit to the number of renewals up to NRD. However, this appointment is not convertible to a regular appointment.
