About the Job
The WASH Assistant supports the routine and daily implementation and administration of the WASH and Infrastructure projects for DRC in Abyei Administrative Area (AAA), including supporting organizing and supervising volunteer teams, monitoring of water quality/chlorination processes, construction teams, assessment and design of appropriate interventions and overseeing project implementation supporting IDPs and host communities.
Key Responsibilities
- Program Implementation:
- Assist in the planning, implementation, and monitoring of WASH activities, including:
- Water supply and sanitation infrastructure development and maintenance
- Hygiene promotion and community education campaigns
- Sanitation and hygiene facilities construction and improvement
- Water quality testing and treatment
- Emergency WASH response activities
- Community Engagement:
- Conduct community meetings and trainings on WASH issues
- Facilitate community-based planning and decision-making processes
- Build and maintain strong relationships with community members, local leaders, and other stakeholders
- Address community concerns and resolve WASH-related issues in liaison with the WASH team leader and WASH officers.
- Data Collection and Reporting:
- Collect and analyse data on WASH program indicators
- Prepare regular reports on activity progress and challenges.

- Logistics and Procurement:
- Assist in the procurement and distribution of WASH supplies and materials
- Ensure the proper maintenance and utilization of WASH equipment and tools
Experience and Qualifications
- A diploma in a relevant field, such as Civil engineering, Water Engineering, Fluid Mechanics, etc.
- At least 1-2 years of experiences in hygiene promotion or WASH-related projects in humanitarian contexts.
- Knowledge and understanding of the WASH situation and needs in Abyei and South Sudan.
- Experience of borehole drilling, solar water powered systems and water quality analysis
- Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with diverse groups and individuals.
- Ability to work independently as part of the team.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work with people from different backgrounds.
- Experience in working with local communities, children, and people with special needs.
- Experience in CLTS, PHAST, SLTC, SBCC and CHAST methodology.
- Experience in integration of WASH and other sectors (such as Health, Nutrition, Protection, Education, Food Security, Livelihoods, and effective community engagement approach.
- Committed to save the children principles with good understanding of the Save the Children mandate, child focus and an ability to ensure continues support.
- Experience in integration of WASH and other sectors (such as Health, Nutrition, Protection, Education, Food Security and Livelihoods and effectively engage communities in the implementation process.
Experience and technical competencies:
- A diploma in a relevant field, such as Civil engineering, Water and Sanitation Engineering, Fluid Mechanics, etc.
- Ability to work independently as part of the team.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work with people from different backgrounds.
- Mainstreaming of gender, disability inclusion and accountability to affected populations in WASH programming.
- Good computer skills and knowledge on Auto Desk programs (AutoCAD, ArchiCAD, Orion, etc.) Microsoft word, power point presentation, internet
- Fluency in English and local languages (Dinka).
