Organizational Setting
This position will be based in FAO Project office in Tandojam. The main aim of the FAO country offices, which are headed by the FAO Representative, is to assist governments to develop policies, programmes and projects to achieve food security and to reduce hunger and malnutrition, to help develop the agricultural, fisheries and forestry sectors and to use their environmental and natural resources in a sustainable manner.
Reporting Lines
Under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative and direct supervision by the Programmes Coordinator and Head of Province the incumbent will be part of the FAO Communication Team. In regular consultation and coordination with the Communications team in the Country Office, the incumbent shall ensure coherence with FAO’s corporate communication policy and operational guidelines for all communication and knowledge management.
Technical Focus
This position will provide strategic support to several project at the province level and across the district and project sites. Specifically, the position will undertake the following (a) implement National Communication Strategy and Knowledge Management Strategy through annual and quarterly plans; (b) execute FAO House Style Guidelines, Corporate Communications Strategy, Publication Workflow System and other guidelines so that they could be incorporated in communication product(s); (c) plan, develop, and execute audio-visual communication messages and knowledge management products for FAO’s traditional and non-traditional platforms; (d) assess and address communication and knowledge management needs for target audience, and mechanisms for sharing messages and products; (e) capacity building of FAO field teams and partners on gathering data and information for preparing and sharing communication messages and knowledge products within FAO and with Government, professional networks, the private sector and beneficiary; (f) synthesis communication message and knowledge products on FAO projects outcome and outputs targeting FAO’s sphere of influence including general and specific audiences at national, provincial, district and community levels, and (g) support and assist communication and knowledge management team in the Provincial and Country Office in visibility, outreach and advocacy project.
Tasks and responsibilities
In close collaboration with OCC branches and focal points, the incumbent will\:
• Implement FAO Pakistan Communications Strategy and associated action plans at provincial level.
• Contribution to the preparation and implementation of FAO Pakistan Knowledge Management Strategy.
• Support the submission and clearance of all major publications through FAO’s Publication Workflow System (PWS).
• Support new and creative approaches to improve the internal and external communication at Provincial and Field Offices, and projects level, including improving communications across different offices, units, and projects towards synergizing organization objectives and goals.
• Develop a content management plan for FAO Pakistan website and social media for visibility of projects in coordination with Communications Specialist in Country Office.
• Build capacity of program team members including field teams and other relevant departments on diverse ways of storytelling using audio-visual tools for sharing on FAO’s different platforms.
• Proactively recommend, support, and carry out communication campaigns for international days on the significant of FAO Pakistan including World Food Day among others, and contribute to UN joint communication products and general partners (including UNIC).
• Support in the preparation of talking points and speeches for FAO Representative and Provincial Heads in Pakistan including exclusive media engagements such as op-eds, TV, radio and newspaper interviews.
• Supervise and provide support to vendors and firms hired for communications services.
• Develop and share press releases, success stories, newsletters, brochures, documentaries, social media posts, publications; and prominently engage in outreach and advocacy campaigns, including with local, national, and international media.
• Propose and contribute to the development of communication products including publicity materials in close association with the multimedia artist/graphic designers and consultants (e.g. talking points, briefs, brochures, posters, pamphlets, presentations etc.), to enhance the quality and outreach of FAO programme visibility and messaging to diverse stakeholders, including general public, media, government of Pakistan, and FAO headquarter and Regional office;
• Maintain frequent communication between FAO and development partners including Donors and foreign funded projects, Government ministries, line departments, agencies, authorities and other entities.
• Guide and support the regular sharing of the learning outputs of MEAL findings with project staff and primary stakeholders including implementing partners and beneficiaries.
• Plan and manage visits project operational areas to collect content for developing various communication products such as success stories of lessons learned and best practices using different media products such as videos.
• Support in advancing linkages, networking, and partnerships towards enhanced advocacy and resource mobilization initiatives; developing and maintaining close contacts with national project counterparts, development partners, and donors.
• Support knowledge building and management; strategic documentation of innovative and good practices; and building the capacity of programme team on the same.
• Perform any other tasks assigned by the supervisor and FAO Communications Specialist in the Country Office.

Minimum Requirements
• Advanced university degree in Communications, Media, Social Sciences or other related field;
• At least 8 years’ experience of serving communication and/or knowledge management disciplines in UN, international organizations, the non-government and/or public sector.
