Un Ponte Per (UPP) is implementing a cultural and tourism development project in the archaeological area of Jerash, funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS), in collaboration with national and international partners and with the cooperation of the Department of Antiquities (DoA), the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities (MoTA), and the Municipality of Jerash.
To ensure proper technical support, safety compliance, and supervision of Cash-for-Work activities, UPP is establishing a roster of Civil Engineers residing in, or available to be based in, Jerash.
Main tasks and responsabilities
The Civil Engineer will be responsible for:
- Supervising and monitoring workers employed under the Cash-for-Work scheme, ensuring compliance with attendance requirements, work plans, and safety procedures.
- Acting as the focal point between the workers and UPP, and between the workers and the technical staff/authorities on site.
- Preparing and implementing a site-specific Safety and Emergency Plan, including risk assessments, emergency procedures, and safety briefings.
- Provide trainings and awarness sessions to workers related to first aid and OSH
- Ensuring that all workers follow safety instructions, wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and adhere to Ministry of Labour (MoL) safety regulations.
- Suggesting improvements to work methods and site arrangements to minimise risks and enhance efficiency.
- Serve as the focal point for coordination between the technical team and the UPP team regarding the identification, requisition, and follow-up of stock, materials, and tool requirements
- Coordinating with contractors, project partners, and relevant authorities to resolve operational and technical issues.
- Preparing regular technical and safety reports for submission to the Project Manager.
- Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field (Master’s degree is an asset).
- Valid professional license from the Jordan Engineers Association (JEA).
- Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in construction supervision, including experience with Cash-for-Work or labour-intensive schemes.
- Valid OSH licence, accompained with strong knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations, including MoL requirements.
- Proven ability to prepare and implement Safety and Emergency Plans, conduct safety briefings, and enforce PPE usage.
- Valid First-Aid certificate from an accredited institution (Technical and Vocational Skills Development Authority).
- Previous experience working on cultural heritage, archaeological, or tourism-related sites is an asset.
- Good knowledge of national building codes, site supervision practices, and labour management.
- Strong skills in AutoCAD, MS Office, and other relevant engineering tools.
- Fluency in Arabic; working knowledge of English is an asset.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with ability to liaise effectively between workers, management, and technical experts.
- Availability to be based in Jerash or surrounding areas, with occasional travel to Amman.
