Mission and objectives

The United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV) manages and implements the United Nations programme on the peaceful uses of outer space and supports UNOV/UNODC with various operational services.

As part of the United Nations Office at Vienna, the Information Technology Service (ITS) through its India Technology Hub (ITH) forms part of the ITS's vital delivery pillars in keeping with the UN's revised ICT strategy and is responsible for Information Technology Support, focusing on innovative, sustainable, affordable and robust digital solutions, cybersecurity measures and trainings to meet UNOV/UNODC requirements, also enabling availability of the solutions more generally across the UN Secretariat entities and beyond.

Context

This assignment aims to help software developer to understand the practical aspects of coding, debugging, documentation, and collaboration in a professional software development environment. It will also provide opportunities to apply your learning under the guidance of experienced developers.

Task description

The ITH based in New Delhi forms part of the vital delivery pillars of the ITS in keeping with the UN’s revised ICT strategy. As part of this strategy and under the direct supervision of the Head - India Technology Hub and will be responsible for the following tasks:
1. Assist in Coding and Development:
• Write, test, and debug code under the supervision of senior developers.
• Contribute to ongoing development tasks and feature enhancements.
2. Bug Fixing:
• Identify and fix bugs in existing codebases.
• Participate in troubleshooting and resolving issues.
3. Documentation:
• Document code, processes, and project updates.
• Maintain technical documentation for internal use.
4. Code Reviews:
• Participate in peer reviews to understand coding standards and best practices.
• Learn to provide and receive constructive feedback.
