Mission and objectives

The Economic Commission for Western Asia (ECWA) was established on 9 August 1973 pursuant to Economic and Social Council’s resolution 1818 (LV). Its purpose was to stimulate economic activity in member countries, strengthen cooperation between them promote development.

ESCWA's objectives are to support economic and social development in member countries, to promote interaction and cooperation between member countries, to encourage the exchange of experience, best practice and lessons learned, to achieve regional integration and ensure interaction between Western Asia and other regions, and to raise global awareness of the circumstances and needs of member countries.

ESCWA provides a framework for the formulation and harmonization of sectoral policies for member countries, a platform for congress and coordination, a home for expertise and knowledge, and an information observatory.

ESCWA activities are coordinated with the divisions and main offices of the Headquarters of the United Nations, specialized agencies, and international and regional organizations, including the League of Arab States and its subsidiary bodies, and the Gulf Cooperation Council.

Context

The Project Coordinator will play a central role in supporting the ESCWA Technology Centre (ETC) in organizing the Arab SMEs Summit and implementing a portfolio of related initiatives designed to promote technology adoption and entrepreneurship across the Arab region. These include the E-Commerce Acceleration Programme (eCAP), Enhancing MSMEs E-Commerce Capacity and Internationalization in the Arab Region Project (BRI), the Regional Training Programmes on Green Technologies, webinar series, and other capacity-building projects.

In this role, the Project Coordinator will contribute to project execution, proposal drafting, stakeholder engagement, and the delivery of high-quality project outputs. A key responsibility is to support the promotion of all ETC events and programmes on social media, while also ensuring the DEPAR platform and the Arab Creative Market platform are regularly updated with engaging and relevant content. The Project Coordinator will further manage communications, consultation meetings, and administrative tasks to ensure smooth execution.

Task description

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of Joelle Yazbeck, Acting Director of ESCWA Technology Centre or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the National UNV Specialist – Project Coordinator will:
• Coordinate the planning and execution of the Arab SMEs Summit and other ETC initiatives, including the E-Commerce Acceleration Programme (eCAP), regional training on green technologies, webinar series, and related capacity-building projects.
• Assist in project design and delivery, contributing to the preparation of workplans, proposals, and high-quality outputs such as presentations, reports, and communications materials.
• Promote ETC events and programmes by managing social media outreach and ensuring regular, engaging content updates on both the DEPAR platform and the Arab Creative Market platform.
• Provide operational and administrative support, including scheduling, documentation, reporting, and ensuring smooth coordination of all project activities.
• Build and coordinate communities on the DEPAR and Arab Creative Market platforms, ensuring regular engagement and interaction with members.
• Attend meetings and closely monitor discussions related to the project's objectives, incorporating these insights into proposals and required materials to support project implementation.
• Assist in the creation and design of agendas, informational materials, and presentations for ETC meetings and events, supporting the overall project implementation plan and proposal development.
• Undertake additional tasks and assignments as delegated, contributing to the successful implementation of project plans and the development of proposals.
