Under the immediate supervision of the Project Coordinator and overall guidance of WFP Communications unit in collaboration with Information Departments in the Disaster Management Authority, Ministry of Environment and Forestry (including Lesotho Meteorological Services) ,Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Nutrition, the Communication Associate will perform the following duties:
Responsibilities:
- Mapping of partners to identify strategic partnerships to help in the implementation of the Communication strategy.
- Develop media (along side ministerial public relations personnel) the tool kit and train media houses, journalists and editors and other relevant entities on the use of the media tool kit.
- Draft and edit communications copy (e.g. press releases, publications, social media posts)
- Assist in maintaining web content and executing social media strategies
- Train key project partners on awareness raising strategy
- Support and rollout the district action plans on communications and social behavioral change
- Develop targeted press kits (along side ministerial public relations personnel) on weather forecasts, seasonal forecasts, climate change, food security and nutrition in Lesotho
- Facilitate community awareness sessions through dialogue, trainings, campaigns, including community mobilization related activities
- Facilitate the basic meteorological and climate change understanding course for journalists and editors and conduct focus groups discussions at community level.
- Support consolidation project progress report on monthly, quarterly and annual basis
- Generate and disseminate (along side ministerial public relations personnel) social media content including photo galleries, videos and audios consistent with Adaptation fund guidelines, messages to be disseminated utilizing platforms, networks and other means for enhanced coverage.
- Prepare and distribute information products (along side ministerial public relations personnel) such as news release, brochures, infographics and briefing packages to donors, public and private stakeholders and other target audiences.
- Maintain contact with journalists and media outlets, manage the flow of information with the related stakeholders, monitor and analyze mainstream media coverage of project activities.
- Organize field visits to project sites of external missions of donors, government counterparts, media and document activities with audio-visual productions
- Perform any other related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Education: Post high school diploma in communications/mass media communications /international relations
Experience: A minimum six years' professional experience in communications/ journalism/public relations field.
Required skills:
- Ability to work with multiple stakeholders;
- Willingness to build capacity of others through formal and informal training processes;
- Ability to facilitate and train different audiences; ability to prepare relevant documentation and training materials;
- Ability to meet agreed deadlines;
- Ability to write and disseminate reports;
- Ability to effectively communicate orally.
