Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a leading protection agency with a mandate to protect, advocate and promote durable solutions for displacement affected populations.
DRC has been operating in Ukraine since 2014, currently DRC employs over 800 staff in Ukraine and implements emergency response in the Protection, Livelihoods, Shelter/NFIs and Humanitarian Disarmament and Peacebuilding (humanitarian mine action) sectors, using direct interventions, support to duty bearers and civil society organizations (CSOs), and partnerships with CSOs. DRC will continue and adapt its durable solutions portfolio to the evolving context.
DRC is currently looking for a Humanitarian Mine Action Assistant / Non-Technical Survey\ Explosive Ordnance Risk Education Assistant (NTS/EORE Assistant) in Mykolaiv.
About the job
The position involves engaging with local communities, collecting data on contaminated areas, conducting information sessions, and supporting coordination with other units of the Danish Refugee Council in Ukraine. The primary purpose of this role is to conduct non-technical survey (NTS) of areas and provide Explosive Ordnance Risk Education (EORE) to communities in the southern region, particularly in Mykolaiv and Kherson oblasts.
Your main duties and responsibilities will be:
- Conducting risk education sessions on mines and explosive remnants of war (EORE) for adults, adolescents, and children in line with the Danish Refugee Council (DRC) Ukraine Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs);
- Supporting the preparation of EORE trainers for local stakeholders as a Trainer Assistant;
- Distributing EORE information materials according to guidelines;
- Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of the local context, including types of explosive hazards;
- Implementing non-technical survey (NTS) processes under the guidance of a NTS\EORE Officer and in accordance with relevant SOPs;
- Supporting the collection of contamination evidence through document analysis, individual interviews, and focus group discussions;
- Assisting in the identification and assessment of hazardous areas through visual observation;
- Helping evaluate dangerous zones for potential land clearance;
- Recording GPS coordinates, preparing sketch maps, and taking photos in line with SOPs;
- Establishing communication with community members to facilitate information sharing;
- Maintaining regular contact with the community during demining operations;
- Using developed tools for data analysis and processing to share NTS/EORE activity information with the DRC Information Management Unit.
About you
To be successful in this role we expect you to have at least 1 year of experience in the humanitarian or educational sector, including working with diverse communities, youth, and children. Moreover, we also expect the following:
Required
- Education: University degree in pedagogy, psychology, social sciences, security, social work, or related fields;
- Public Speaking Skills: Experience delivering training, presentations, and educational sessions to various target groups (adults, adolescents, children);
- Attention to Detail and Teamwork: Strong sense of responsibility, ability to work effectively in a team, and adaptability in a dynamic humanitarian context;
- Languages: Fluent in Ukrainian;
- Computer Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and basic familiarity with online communication tools (Teams, Zoom, etc.).

We offer
Contract length: 3 month probation period, with the possibility of extension based on funding and satisfactory performance.
